I really don't understand the hype of this upgraded variant. The Indians are acting as if it's the next best thing while it's the equivalent of the upgrade from Block II to Block III Thunder.

I could somewhat understand the fuss if they rolled out the Mk2, but this Mk1A...

Edit: It doesn't even use their indigenous Uttam radar from the beginning

Pro: India is finally getting Tejas into a good place and developing it's aviation industry

Con: The inherent flaws of the Tejas still exist despite improvements.

Well, it's the reason.
Mk.1A is meant to finally become just that - up-to-date, working Indian fighter design, delivered on time.
Being a good match to JF-17 blk. III within a couple of years of its introduction in PAF is an achievement.

That's a major development, and there is no reason to hiss about it.

That's a major development, and there is no reason to hiss about it.
The first flight of Tejas MK1A is significant because 60% of the fighter jets in the IAF fleet are intended to be Tejas, making it a pivotal technology testbed as well.
