Soaking missiles with manned fighters? Excellent plan.
Use MALDs for this, it's their designed usage at least.

Nevertheless, it's the first confirmed production-intended article of this sort.

Nice way of totally ignoring what I actually wrote and repeating me.

Demonstrates impressive tracking abilities. Looks like a two stage rocket with exoatmospheric final stage and warhead. Heard it was intercepting a LEO sat at around 275 to 300km altitude. Similar to USN sm3 test. Wonder if they used a kinetic kill warhead or proximity fuzed large warhead.

These abilities are used to show the tools for building BMD based on exo interceptors. Could be useful against small nuclear attacks. Countries with low stockpiles may be in trouble if comprehensive BMD is set up. Doubt China cares too much since they probably already know India has had the means for this sort of ability. But it is going to send some messages to Pakistan. Nuclear deterrence has kept the two from going into all out war for a while. But it takes some considerable time to go from here to smaller missiles that can be purchased and maintained in vast numbers so maybe they just want to show this off now given the contest of what's been happening and the upcoming elections.

At <300km range, it would be unable to target even China’s high res close flying satellites which operate at 640-2200km above sea level.

Compared to the expertise behind systems like SC-19 that can target anything in low orbit where nearly all military satellites are, the difference is like day and night. And compared to the most updated ASAT weapons within PLA, the gap is even greater.

The decision to destroy a satellite that was at extremely low orbit, practically touching the atmosphere, is best explained as a move to increase domestic nationalism. Such a missile would not be useful in a real combat situation given that no satellites fly that close to earth. However, it could be a first step towards developing an usable ASAT weapon.
