can any one make sense of what what the russians are saying.
is he talking about upgrading sukhoi 30 MKI to Su 35s standards or simply buying new Su-35-s or pak fa?????????
I dont know if its is true, but my thoughts on why Su-35 could make sense.
Even then I feel MiG-29M/MiG-35 would make much more sense if Rafale deal falls apart.

Su-30MKI is better than Rafale in almost every thing that we want an aircraft to do and it can be updated when needed and as per requirement. But the main drawback that I see is it being a twin seater and hence a major drain on IAF pilots. An AF cant afford to depend on building upon their strength on twin-seaters. So a single seat version of the MKI is needed, but developing a new single-seater Su-30MKI is not logical in an economical sense. That makes us arrive at a point where we need to search for an alternative that is modern and as capable, if not more, than what Su-30MKI is now, but that comes in a single seat version. And probably the only a/c in that size and capablity is the Su-35.

I feel this could be the reason and logic (if at all that report is true) behind looking to Su-35 as an alternative to Rafale.

Indian Navy Submitted an RFI to Dassault about the Rafale M Carrier Capable Variant

Dassault Aviation chief executive officer Eric Trappier announced yesterday during a press conference that the French company has replied to a request for information from the Indian Navy on the naval Rafale M single-seat carrier-capable variant of its fighter.

India and France are in final negotiation for the procurement of 126 Rafale fighters for the Indian Air Force.

Indian Navy's current (INS Vikramaditya, INS Viraat) and near term (INS Vikrant) aircraft carriers are all fitted with a ramp for STOBAR type operations (Short Take-Off But Arrested Recovery). While likely capable of STOBAR operations, the Rafale M capabilities would be maximized with a CATOBAR type aircraft carrier (Catapult Assisted Take-Off But Arrested Recovery) like the US Navy aircraft carriers or the French Navy aircraft carrier.

Indian Navy's future INS Vishal might be nuclear-powered carrier with CATOBAR system.

"Rafale deal is not through or final. If it is at all finalised in future, it will take time. I would not like to comment on it as it is still in the negotiation stage," he explained during question hour.

The Rafale deal for 126 jets is estimated to cost over USD 20 billion over the next decade and is considered to be the biggest global defence tender.

The Defence Minister said the Defence Acquisition Council has recently cleared 44 projects worth Rs 1,34,000 crore and all of them were critical for the armed forces.

"We are trying to fast track our defence acquisition process. One example is bullet-proof jacket. We have already ordered 50,000 bullet proof jacket and 50,000 more are expected to be ordered shortly...," he claimed.

Parrikar asserted his Ministry was ensuring that all three wings of the armed forces coordinate with each other for inclusiveness rather than exclusiveness, so that duplication is avoided while acquiring defence products.

Observing that some critical shortages in ammunitions were being addressed, he said a constant endeavour was made for upgrading the conventional equipment, developing new technologies and acquiring contemporary systems.

"Mismatches between requirements and availability can sometimes occur which are continually address by the on-going procurement process," he assured.

Parrikar said unsafe and outdated equipment were not utilised by defence forces. Ageing of equipment is a natural process and is dealt with through proper maintenance, obsolescence management, upgrades and acquisition of new equipment.

The Defence Acquisition Council has decided for procurement of light helicopters under the 'buy and make' category. Five cases of procurement of small arms are at different stages of the procurement cycle, he added.

First modernised MIG-29UPG In India takes to the skies
The first MiG-29UPG, modernized by Indian specialists, completed its first scheduled test flights in February, said Sergei Korotkov, general director of the MiG Corporation.

In 2009, the IAF and the MiG Aircraft Corporation signed an agreement on the modernisation of 62 Indian MiG-29s, turning them into the MiG-29UPGs. The aircraft are now equipped with modern avionics complexes, similar and compatible to those used in the MiG-29K fighter jets flown by the Indian Navy. The contract is estimated to be worth $964 million.

This modernisation significantly expands the range of tasks that the MiG-29 can perform. Currently, the plane is primarily designed to intercept aerial targets and achieve air superiority. The upgraded aircraft, along with expanded capabilities to destroy air targets, now has the ability to attack ground (surface) targets, both stationary and mobile, with precision weapons at any time of day and in any weather conditions.

The first six MiG-29s were modernised in Russia. The rest will be upgraded in India, where currently four aircrafts are undergoing the reconstruction process.

Parrikar takes dig at Armed forces for Repeatedly changing Staff requirements on Indigenous weapons systems

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar talking on the sideline of India today conclave 2015 said that he was not happy with Armed forces repeatedly changing requirements in the weapons systems currently been developed by various Public sector units, he also said that he has ensured that no more last minutes changes will be entertained hence forth once staff requirement has been defined .

Parrikar also said sometimes General Staff Qualitative Requirement (GSQR) laid down by Armed forces in the weapons systems to be developed in India seems like right out of ” Marvel comic Movies “, clearly hinting that Technologies requested in Indigenous weapons systems sometimes purely is absurd and not realistic in nature . with Former Army chief Bikram Singh sitting next to him hints were clearly pointed towards Indian army .

Repeated changes in GSQR and unrealistic technology requested in the short time frame has been criticised by DRDO in past and many key projects like Arjun main battle tanks and LCA Tejas have seen delays due to repeated changes asked almost every time at last minute when weapons system is all set for production or enter user trials.

Indian Defense analytics for long have criticized Indian military planners of drafting unrealistic General Staff Qualitative Requirement (GSQR) for local weapons systems, some have even had gone on to say that sometimes GSQR framed was heavily influenced by different military brochures of International defence manufacturers .

March 07, 2015: HAL's ambitions of entering the aircraft engine space in a meaningful manner have become clear now. While the development of high performance combat aircraft engines are being left to the DRDO's GTRE and its international partners, HAL has unveiled the HTFE-25 (Hindustan Turbofan Engine 25) that will be pitched to power trainer aircraft and business jets in the twin engine configuration. The 25 kN turbofan engine, slim in design, is 1,730mm long, 590mm in diameter and weighs 350 kg. The HTFE-25 is a low bypass twin spool mixed flow turbofan engine with wide chord fan blades, sports a high efficiency compressor and advanced combustor. The engine is controlled by full authority digital engine control (FADEC). The medium thrust engine could be pitched also for unmanned air systems of the future. The HTFE-25 is being developed as a fully in-house effort funded through internal accruals. HAL projects that the engine could be ready for operational service by 2018. The company has already begin testing waters abroad and in India for possible utilisation of the 25 kN engine, including with private players looking to build aircraft in the country.

OBso3cK.jpg

Thousands of youth Thursday thronged the JAKLI headquarters at Rangreth in the outskirts of Srinagar city for a physical test.

Army according to sources has to fill 53 posts of soldiers in JAKLI for which physical test of the candidates scheduled for today surprised even the army officials.

“Not less than 20 thousand youth reached the venue for the test resulting in problems for the army to control them,” they said.

“It indicates the level of unemployment in the Valley,” said a local vender who had a good day at his tea stall.

Rangreth houses the Headquarter of JAKLI division of army.

However, defense spokesman in Srinagar, Lieutenant Col NN Joshi informed Kashmir Life that the recruitment drive was for the Territorial Army and not for the JAKLI. “Territorial army is a joint effort of various security agencies,” Joshi said adding “It is a positive sign that Kashmiri youth are desirous to join army.”

The candidates, according to sources have reached even from far off places like Kupwara, Baramulla, Bandipora and Kulgam districts apart from the nearby Srinagar and Budgam.

They said some of the candidates are even post graduates.
