They now have this delulu idea that the Kaveri was actually better than the WS-10 at some mythical 2009 (or 2012, they can't get their story straight) faceoff in Russia.

Self-serving breast-beating "we were better but lacked confidence in our great but overlooked abilities."

The WS-10 had been test flown in both J-11B and J-10 test planes by then. In fact, it was test flown by the 4th J-10 prototype 1004 in 2004. In what world would Kaveri that never powered flight would magically be better than WS-10 that was test flown in a single-engine J-10 prototype?

Indian government didn't continue investing in the Kaveri because the thing never worked.

India’s new 12,000 km bomber could reach New York without refueling with BrahMos missiles onboard
Summary:
India plans to build an ultra-long-range strategic bomber for the Air Force, designed to strike targets more than 12,000 kilometres away. Modelled partly on Russia’s TU-160 and America’s B-21 Raider, it aims to expand India’s nuclear deterrence and global reach. The project, known as the Ultra Long-Range Strike Aircraft, will carry BrahMos-NG missiles and possibly other advanced weapons. Talks with Russia and France for technology transfer are underway, with the first prototype likely by 2035.
