The Indian Ministry of Defence has announced the first test of the Gaurav long-range glide bomb weighing 1,000 kg.
During the test on August 13, the Indian Air Force Su-30MKI fighter dropped the munition off the coast of Odisha. The projectile hit the target on Abdul Kalam/Wheeler Island.
The munition was guided to the target using a “hybrid navigation scheme with a combination of inertial navigation system and GPS data”.
The Gaurav has a low-drag cylindrical hull with a tapered nose, equipped with folding wings in the middle of the hull and four tail fins. The length is 4.027 m, diameter - 620 mm, wingspan - 3.4 m. The maximum firing range exceeds 80 km.
