Superpower by 2020

Origin
In 1998, former president of India Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam and Dr Y. S. Rajan co-authored India 2020: A Vision for the New Millennium, a book in which they expressed their vision for India becoming a developed country by year 2020 or earlier.[1]

India to become superpower by 2012: Kalam

India has become very advanced in space technology, he said, adding the country would become a superpower by 2012.

"Though I have envisioned India to become a superpower by 2020,
the attitude and the confidence of the youth, to conquer everything in the right spirit, would make the country a global leader and super power within five years," Kalam told reporters.

Well to be fair, that guy was a scientist, founder of space research of that country, only sector where they have some progress to show. If he was in charge, i would be worried about it being some kinda supa pawa.

Current orange juice dancers are more of entertainment & time pass.

Very surprised when I 1st found out you were banned, haha.
Welcome back.
Not sure a scientist in charge can navigate the complex Indian political landscape.

No he cant. But then he didnt need to. The more time they spend in political landscape the more time they will waste. You cant give democracy to people as incompetent as indians before they are ready for it.
With that guy or like minded people in charge india would have been much more of a challenge in both economic & scientific spectrum which is non existent now. Current complexity of Indian politics is their own making because they need to mask their failure as a nation by showing they are trying to achieve some utopian dream which then results into ethnic & religion based conflict.
When a nation starts to make real progress the public automatically rallies behind, case in point - China.
So i only have to say, Thank You India.

I am surprised Moody only cut the forecast from 9.1% to 8.8%, even though it is from a very low base last fiscal year. Given the current global economic situation with energy and food (including fertilizer) scarcity, and pressure from the West not to buy from Russia, I would anticipate India would see a bigger pullback.

For comparison, in April, World Bank cut India's GDP forecast from 8.7% to 8%, follow by IMF cut 9% to 8.2%. And since then, energy cost and food shortage continued to skyrocket.

World Bank cuts India's GDP growth forecast to 8% from 8.7% in FY23

Since China manufactures 70~90% of API used in India, it is much easier for China to move up the value chain and become the "pharmacy of the world" than for India to wean herself off the API from China.

With the push to strengthen China's biomedical industry as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, China won't make a public statement of such a goal. The world will just come to the realization one day in the not too distant future.

India is waiting for China to collapse and take over it's pharma industry. Go India!

Could you provide me the data on the kms of rail (of every gauge) India built from 2000 to 2022? Since you said it's 4000 km to Singapore from India, we could easily figure out how long it would take for India to finish this line.

China build 4200 km of rail in 2021, so in theory, China if only working on this project can do it in one year.

I couldn't find how much India constructed.
I didn’t find any exact data showing construction of railway tracks per year in India but India is making a dedicated freight corridor from Mumbai to Delhi to Kolkata which is a world class freight corridor
