Many countries citizens currently around $6000 don't have major international brand like panama, malaysia, kasakstan, brazil, south africa, urugay...etc

If China only have few brands by that time, it means they need adjust their policy, being too reliant on foreign stuffs, don't you think?

It's a darn shame that none of those countries have any bran- *cough* embraer *cough* -dnames. I guess it's time for the presidents of brazil, 'kasakstan', urnotgay, and malaysia to finally tell all foreign enterprises to pack up and go away.

LOL. You sure don't study other countries don't you?

Countries like Brazil (only one brand name-Embraer), Philippines, Indonesia, Panama, Mexico---you name it, they got it---practice Protectionism with a capital P.

In fact one of the reasons why many countries are still in the doldrums economically is because they practice protectionism first and foremost, and this security umbrella failed to make their local industries globally competitive.

Why? Because this sense of security does not incite companies to try harder and be globally competitive. The one industry that Brazil does not protect, is the one industry where Brazil actually has a competitive name (Embraer).

And there are countries that are fully developed, and don't really have big brand names at all, such as Australia and Canada, aside from beer brands and movie stars.

Well, I attribute a bigger reason is those countries there people are somehow lazy, lacking the east asian confuscist work ethics and diligence. They more prefer to party and drink beer.

Canada and Australia have lot of resources and few people. They maintain that life style like that just selling iron ores and oil. Plus they are westerners and have head start in terms of industrialization with respect to other folks.

what's your assessment if China reach $6K per capita, pretty much lose its cheaper labor advantage by that time. And if they don't have enough brand name stuffs to export. What do you do? Do you want to say try and work harder?

Exactly what Kliu is saying. Like Taiwan, you can build for the name brands just like HTC is doing. For that matter, that is already what many Chinese brands like Haier and TCL is already doing. TCL is already the world's largest manufacturer for TVs, while companies like JVC has stopped making TVs on their own, and are just rebranding from other companies.
