Hong-Kong Protests

Except for the fringe, people have moved on or accepted reality. The world wide hk han-jians tried rallying protest across the world last weekend against the article 23 passage. People coming out seem to be pretty low. In fact, they did not even publish photos from some of the locations as i suspect only a few showed up. I did a quick count of their few publish photos: <300 in the uk (out of 100k BNO) , < 200 in Canada, < 100 in Austrailia , 50 mainlanders looking for asylum in Los Angles, 10 in Japan , 10 in Taiwan, 1 in Hong Kong

Except for the mainlanders wanting asymlum, many had facemask on which means... yeah, they plan to visit Hong Kong/China again

Embarrassing compared to its height, I guess after all the rioting and harm doing in HK which showed their true colors, most people don’t want anything to do with these snake oil salesman anymore

Yeah it’s a party in the PRC.
As I am told in HK everything is overpriced as hell due to rent, service sucks and queues are too long. Even HK-ers don't want to stay there for the holidays if they can help it. They don't even have the language excuse or difficulty paying. They can just go up north to Guangdong where everyone speaks the same language and the banks allow the WeChat/alipay HK apps to work in China now. Everything has been streamlined for the benefit of HK-ers spending so they should be glad.

Westeners and their dogs are just unable to keep up with the trends. That's why they are talking tradition, being conservative and backward looking coz they stopped looking forward. Look at the earlier posts in this thread. All aged badly as being part of the wrong side.

Or 300 people took the money and only 50 showed up. A nice con if you ask me. What is the NED going to do? Take you to small claims court?

If the NED comes to me to ask if I would take money to show up to protest, I would absolutely say yes, in fact, I will sign up 100 of my imaginary friends as well if they pay 50% up front.

I doubt the price of real estate and rents in HK will improve significantly. The private construction sector has just too much pull in Hong Kong and they haven't become rich with cheap housing. I doubt the central government will try to significantly change this situation since it's not their usual way of doing things in HK.

I don’t doubt the stupidity of government to hand over money for nothing, but I’m pretty sure it was alleged that in HK, they had to get something from a handler at the protests to get paid later.

Very sad

They had more banners than people, you can see a pile of placards and flags. They did a fast forward video as well to distract from the low turnout.

Another clear sign of USA direction, there is an ad for an Ukraine war film (lower right, “Ukrainians fight for freedom), but nothing about Gaza/Palestine. Right now there is a lot of grassroots support of Palestinians in Canada.
