Hong-Kong Protests

To anyone thinking China and HK SAR should show leniency for these rioters, let us be reminded of the crimes perpetrated by the cockroaches:
Treason alone (colluding with foreign governments and organizations to subvert the state, which protest leaders did without shame) is enough to put them in prison for life. Joshua Wong literally met with US government officials to plan his strategy to overthrow Chinese rule in Hong Kong, how is that not treason?

Because it is technically not "treason"?

Section 2 of Crimes Ordinance (刑事罪行條例) defines treason as:
2. Treason
(1) A person commits treason if he—
(a) kills, wounds or causes bodily harm to Her Majesty, or imprisons or restrains Her;
(b) forms an intention to do any such act as is mentioned in paragraph (a) and manifests such intention by an overt act;
(c) levies war against Her Majesty—
(i) with the intent to depose Her Majesty from the style, honour and royal name of the Crown of the United Kingdom or of any other of Her Majesty’s dominions; or
(ii) in order by force or constraint to compel Her Majesty to change Her measures or counsels, or in order to put any force or constraint upon, or to intimidate or overawe, Parliament or the legislature of any British territory;
(d) instigates any foreigner with force to invade the United Kingdom or any British territory;
(e) assists by any means whatever any public enemy at war with Her Majesty; or
(f) conspires with any other person to do anything mentioned in paragraph (a) or (c).
(2) Any person who commits treason shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction on indictment to imprisonment for life.
(Amended 24 of 1993 s. 2)
(As far as I know, that is the law that is currently in the books.)

As you can see, there are several problems: 1. It is severely out of date, to wit: in TYOOL 2023 it still mentions "HM The Queen", even though she has... passed on. 2. There is no mention of "People's Republic of China" or even "Government of Hong Kong". In fact, the actual first mention of "Government of Hong Kong" is under s. 9 (seditious intention) of the said ordinance.

The thing with "treason" is that contrary to colloquial usage, it has a very technical definition, and refers to a very specific type of offence. Under the specific wording of the ordinance, the Procecutions Division may very well not have a case of "treason" specifically. This is why a national security legislation (primary legislation (law) from the PRC or secondary legislation (ordinance) from HK LegCo) of some sort was desperately needed.

Incidentally, if one actually reads the National Security Law, they would find that it reads more like a Westminster-style legislation rather than the usual stuff National People's Congress usually puts out. I assume that is for the benefit of HK courts. ...But that's neither here nor there.

White guys aren’t meeting with Chinese officials to conspire against the federal government. If they were it would also be considered treason.

You can protest and even advocate for state independence without being a traitor, but the moment you start working with foreign governments, the label applies even in the West.

Exactly. Hanjians are a very dangerous breed. They served very fervently for Manchu invaders. Much more recently we also had the Wang Jingwei regime and Puyi very willing to suck Japanese dick. That's not the end of all traitorous characters of the Hanjian legions. What to think of the 1989 Tiananmen episode and we could also include the 2019-2020 HK protest in this continuing episode of Hanjian traitours wanting to establish a foreign regime. In the past there were also disgraces like Ching Tsai Loo pillaging Chinese cultural artifacts with truck loads on behest of their white overlords in China and selling it to them.
