Note that Singapore is small enough to get away with this, because everyone literally knows everyone else.
If you start spending big, questions will be asked as to where the money came from.

Maybe twenty years ago proficiency in Mandarin Chinese was 'nice to have' in SEA and Oceania.

Today it is 'necessary to have' - especially if you are ethnic Chinese, because that comes with the natural expectation that you are fluent in your mother language.

I find the notion in general quite amusing that there are ethnicities that actively dont teach their children their mother tongue so that the children become "integrated" into their host societies...

Its the same with SEA people here in Germany, I know alot of mixed couples where onky German in spoken in the household.

The net favorable impression toward the Chinese central government also hit a new high since 2009. The net favorability for the British government hit the lowest since 1997, and the figure for the US fell to a record low since 2007. Both are negative numbers. Some other data also show prominent changes in the same direction.
