H-6 Bomber Aircraft Discussions

Recently there were articles and discussion here about reengining H-6s (and Y-20s) with WS-18 engine, which is size comparable with current Russian engines. Is that option still alive?

I don't see it happening in the near future.

If the current H-6 already has a combat radius of 3000km, that is already beyond the limits where land-based aircraft can provide fighter cover.

It's already got a decent payload and if there are enough engines available, where is the rationale for a re-engining?

We know H-6N has a nuclear role. So this missile like DF-26 seems be able to carry both nuclear and conventional anti-ship warheads. Also seems to have double cone structure like DF-26...
On March 6, 2018, Lt. Gen. Robert Ashley, in discussing the development of new Chinese long-range, precision-strike systems, said that “These capabilities are being augmented with two new air-launched ballistic missiles, one of which may include a nuclear payload.” In May 2017, Lt. Gen. Vincent R. Stewart, the former director of the DIA, for the first time, referenced “two, new air-launched ballistic missiles, one of which may include a nuclear payload.” It’s unclear if the conventional ALBM referenced in these DIA threat assessments is an alternate warhead configuration for the nuclear-capable system. A conventional variant of the CH-AS-X-13 could perform a long-range anti-ship role.

Why do you believe the new H-6N ALBM is called YJ-21?

To my knowledge, the YJ-21 name has only been attributed to the naval UVLS launched AShBM, which is far smaller than the ALBM on H-6N and an entirely different missile?

I feel like this is an important aspect to clarify as if this is a mis identification, it could cause us a lot of confusion and pain in the future if we don't know which missile is which.
