H-20 bomber (with H-X, JH-XX)

Thanks. So, SAC is pretty much screwed if turns out that the naval tender went to CAC, now that its biggest gravy train is coming to an end. I thought that OP implied that the naval tender is currently SAC's biggest project, rather than it being unclaimed by either CAC or SAC?

On second thought, yes, your interpretation seems to be correct.

OP emphasised that the 4th-gen carrier fighter was the only big thing going on now whereas SAC's ventures in the bomber/striker field were made in its long-term interests.

Thanks! So SAC is trying to do with a bomber project what it did with the FC-31: create a new prototype aircraft and hope that the PLAAF retrospectively picks it up later.

Thanks. So SAC might be planning to do what it did with the FC-31 but this time with a bomber project: conduct pre-research and possibly go ahead with a prototype in hopes of the PLAAF retrospectively accepting the project.
According to 苏明的真理信念, that's the idea.

However, between the strategic H-20 and tactical JH-20, it's uncertain if there is a need for a stratical H-17.

Depends on how big the "JH-20" and "H-17" are.

E.g., if H-17 can hold two YJ-12 sized missiles internally and JH-20 cannot, then I'd say there would be a need.

If CAC is indeed getting Chinese 5th gen (Rest of world 6th gen) project as alleged, it should be an indicator of CAC vs SAC's competence. If this is worth anything, shouldn't CAC be getting next gen carrier fighter contract as well. I know SAC has more experience in carrier fighters for the moment, but they haven't indicated any ability to engineer from scratch completely new fighters from conception into service, even ones that resemble American products like J-31 aren't there yet. So getting Su-33 prototype solutions to resolve engineering problems of getting flanker carrier borne is not the same as getting J-31 onto PLAN carriers. Seems to me that either CAC isn't surely getting next gen contract from PLAAF or SAC probably won't get PLAN contract. CAC so far seems to be quite a lot more capable than SAC so it doesn't make much sense to award the PLAN fighter project to SAC. It's not like they absolutely must have it or else go bankrupt and lose the talents.

SAC fighters costing half the price is absurd. Even if they are shoddy quality and assembled from cheap components. Unless they are comparing J-16/J-15 with J-20 then yeah that makes more sense. J-10 costing twice as much is impossible and we know it is not true, otherwise they'd better just abandon J-10, therefore they must be comparing J-20 with J16 or modernised sino flanker.

OP said 4th gen, which corresponds to 5th gen. So if that's true then the J-20 will have another 5th generation platform to complement it.

CAC has another 5th gen platform?!

If OP is correct, that is. We don't know if OP has first- or second-hand access to these kinds of plans or if he/she is merely smoking opium like a Qing Dynasty citizen.

However, a few other credible folks including Henri K. have mentioned a single-engined 5th generation fighter from CAC. Methinks it's not unreasonable for the PLAAF to save on costs by inducting a hi-lo tag team.
