The general consensus or assumption thus far is that the H-20 will be a subsonic stealth bomber along the lines of the B-2 and B-21.

However, considering recent developments in Chengdu, Shenyang and elsewhere, it's obvious that there is both a desire for and a capacity to produce aircraft that's not only stealthy, but also able to fly high and fast.

With that said, would it make sense to equip the H-20 with afterburning turbofans so it may reach a supersonic top speed, even if supercruise remains out of reach?

This means H20 won't be very large, stay within the umbrella of 6-gen CHAD.

To reach the continental US, use the latest iteration of MD22.

Do we know if it will feature the transforming slabs yet?
Fwiw, as China shows that it mastered the tailless supersonic configuration in the J-36, i would be surprised if H-20 would have any slabs. They would add unnecessary weight and mechanical complication. I would think a tailless subsonic airframe would be easier to master than a supersonic one. Perhaps then H-20 will be a B-2/21 with chinese characteristics. What to make of the rumours that it's supposed to fly by 1/26 spring festival iirc, does that means before 26/1/2025 or 1/2026? I don't quite understand which date the poster meant.

I don't believe a plane will fly during the spring festival, it has a huge cultural significance as a time where no one is doing any sort of work at all.
