Lol I think I saw that in a game somewhere. And just wondering, isn't Golly supposed to be making this quiz? What happened to him?

It looks like a T-72 with Oerlikon AA cannons. Could it be a Slovakian T-72M1 Moderna?

I recognized the AA cannons from my service days, similar ones (35mm) are used by FDF

. Some additional googling (t-72 +oerlikon) was required as my information is limited at best.

Moderna seems like a capable modernization of T-72 and looks very impressive. Any info on numbers produced and which countries operate this MBT?

On we go to the next question, here's an easy one for you:

What was this controversial missile and why was it so hotly debated issue?

It's hotly debated because the range is too short so that you can only hit Germany with that?

Spot on zaky and szbd, it is a short range ballistic tactical nuclear missile Pluton on AMX30 chassis. Due to the short range of Pluton it would have been used to strike against invading Soviet forces on German soil. Obviously Germans were not pleased with this and it caused a serious strain on otherwise amicable Franco-German relations.

Pluton was eventually phased out by Hades missile with increased range but the same basic problem remained, targets would still be in Germany, just more to the East. Hades itself was retired in 1996 thus solving the political problem.

The link zaky posted is indeed the one I got the photo from.

has many more images on French Tanks and vehicles, a very nice resource indeed.

I think the next turn goes to zaky for identifying the missile first, even though szbd was correct with the second question. :)
