Re: Gollevainen's Quizz of the week (new)

I think I've seen this gun some where before. I don't remember what it is but I think that either the US .30 cal from WWII or the Thompson submachine gun or the PPsh are descended from it. I can't say why, it just rings a bell.

I'm probably very wrong.

Wrong lineage. I can tell you that the final result of that lineage ends up as a Allied calibre during World War II, but the caliber of the gun as shown is in a Axis calibre.

Vaclav Holek's Praga IIB, round - 7.92 Mauser.
Yes, and it's Czechoslovakian.

Alright, I'll spill the answer:
The answer that the gun shown is a Czech Praga IIA, calibre 7.62mm Mauser. There is no Praga IIB.

Here's the lineage to the Bren:

Praga IIA to:

PragaI-23.jpg

Praga I23 to:

PragaM24.jpg

Praga M24 to:

Brno ZB26 to:

Brno ZB27 to:

Brno ZB30 to:

Bren Mk1

The calibre changed from 7.92mm Mauser to 6.5mm Arisaka back to 7.92mm Mauser to .303 Brit, and finally when the Bren was retired, 7.62x51 NATO.

Well, I was right on country, manufacturer, model, calibre and there's the dispute on actual modification. I'd say my source is none worse than yours.:coffee::D
