9 year compulsory education and rigorous testing to decide whether or not you go to high school?
Now they are requiring public school students from elementary to high school to buy and use clear transparent backpacks so that students cannot hide guns... in some schools they build safety pods kinda like individual escape pods in star trek starships except these dont actually go anywhere in an emergency...

America has always been an open air prison and a police state with the illusion of freedom and liberty and choice.... but at least it used to be a good illusion for most people who played the part...

Take away that high threshold EROEI and the underlining truth and true face of USA reveals itself

Better than our 12 years of compulsory "education" imbued with equal parts sociopolitical proselytization, "learning material" so rote and uninspired in delivery and content that it's no wonder everyone hates it, and standardized testing designed less around incentivizing competence and more around getting the school district better funding - all taught by teachers who don't give 2 s#*ts about their job the majority of the time, and end up sitting at their desks, handing out a study guide or busywork with express instructions not to disturb them, admin and faculty so pearl-clutchingly out of touch that they'd sooner expel and permanently stain the transcript of a student who gets beat in the hallway (so they can send the message that "fighting is zero tolerance! **anyone** in a fight, even if you don't actively participate, is at fault!" - which is what happened to my nephew, and he's a f***ing great kid, straight As, AP classes, now he's in some "correctional" school because he got assaulted in the hallway by some pricks because of his skin color), rather than preventing the endemic drug use, violence, and other crap that has been in American high schools even back when I was in.

The only remotely "political" thing that I sincerely get mad about is the state of our education system. It's a travesty.

So yeah, I'm down with reading about Xi Jinping thought every so often if it would mitigate even half those issues.
You're not far from turning now...

ERORI is diminishing but it's not the entire story.

1. It doesn't really apply when the energy source is practically unlimited (eg. Wind, Solar). So as long as the investment cost is low enough, it doesn't really matter if it is less efficient.

2. A 500W solar panel uses about 1000 KWh to produce. But in a sunny place like Saudi Arabia or many other places, it typically produces 785 KWh of electricity per year. Over a 25 year guaranteed lifespan with some degradation, you get 17.4 units of energy out. That is a decent return. And you could probably leave it out for another 5 years and get 3 more units of energy out, to get 20.4 units generated in total.

3. The technology and scaling continues to get better with renewables.
