LIBERVIT introduces the first underwater hydraulic cutter for combat divers and special forces

WL0j0wK.jpg

LIBERVIT, based in southern France, has over 20 years of experience studying, creating and developing hydraulic and mechanical tools for law enforcement, army and other civil or private rescue teams. Working closely with prestigious units such as RAID, GIGN or French Navy commandos, LIBERVIT identified a need and developped and launched a maritime range. As part of this new maritime range is the first hydraulic cutter and spreader in the world that may be used in deep water for the specific cutting and spreading needs of special forces.

Typical missions in which these hydraulic tools may be used include:
- deforming or cutting a propeller shaft to immobilize a boat (with hostage onboard)
- tearing a gate for access to underwater passage

LIBERVIT Maritime tools may be used in fresh or salt water at depth up to 60 meters. The range includes the MPower, MBP35 and ME3.

At BALT MILITARY EXPO 2014 which was be held in Poland from 24 to 26 June 2014, DCNS unveiled a new member in its Gowind range: The Gowind 1000. According to DCNS it is a new fast and reconfigurable naval asset, ready to face 21st challenges: A high speed vessel capable of fast intervention against emerging threats, with a significant autonomy for deployment from littoral to deep ocean environments in time of crisis.

The Gowind 1000 actually looks similar to what a weaponized L'Adroit OPV could be. The model shown at Balt Military Expo 2014 was fitted with:
- 2x Dual MBDA MM40 Exocet antiship missile launchers
- 2x Quad VLS with MBDA VL Mica surface-to-air missiles
- 2x Nexter Systems Narwhal 20mm remote weapon stations
- 1x Oto Melara 76mm main gun
- 1x Integrated mast to integrate most sensors in a low observable design

Similar to L'Adroit OPV, the main bridge of the Gowind 1000 offers panoramic 360° visibility and there are two main ramps allowing for fast deployement and recovery of two RHIBs for special forces or boarding parties.

SEATTLE, July 22, 2014 – Boeing [NYSE: BA] on July 17 delivered on schedule the first of four upgraded French Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft. The upgraded aircraft will increase the fleet’s surveillance, communications and battle management capabilities.
The Mid-Life Upgrade – the largest set of modifications to AWACS aircraft for France – will provide the crew with more actionable information and better situational awareness and increase mission effectiveness and efficiencies.
“The focus, commitment and hard work among Boeing, Air France Industries and French and U.S. government teams were key in achieving this milestone on schedule,” said Steve Swanz, French AWACS program manager for Boeing.
Delivery followed ground and flight tests at Avord Air Force Base and qualification by France’s Direction Générale de l’Armement.
“The French Mid-Life Upgrade program is a model for enhancing intelligence and surveillance capability within the armed forces. This program also demonstrates Boeing’s enduring commitment in providing the French Air Force with a superior air battle management capability,” said Yves Galland, president of Boeing France.
Modifications to the other three French AWACS aircraft are scheduled for completion by the third quarter of 2016.
Boeing, as prime contractor, provides hardware, software, engineering and quality assurance support. Air France Industries KLM Engineering & Maintenance, a Boeing subcontractor on the project, is upgrading the electrical, mechanical and structural systems and mission hardware on the aircraft.

Japan, France agree on defence equipment cooperation

Tokyo (AFP) — Japan and France on Tuesday agreed to enhance defence cooperation, including the joint development of military equipment, Japanese officials said.

Japan’s Defence Minister Itsunori Onodera and his French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian signed a memorandum of understanding in Tokyo despite Japanese concerns about a planned sale of French warships to Russia.

The agreement comes shortly after Japan’s government—led by conservative Prime Minister Shinzo Abe—expanded the scope of the country’s forces, allowing it the right to go into battle in defence of its allies.

It also follows a commitment made by Abe and French President Francois Hollande in Paris last May to start talks on a deal to jointly develop defence equipment.

“By signing the memorandum, we agreed to further advance our defence cooperation,” Onodera said.

He added that during the talks, Le Drian proposed the two countries conclude a “Acquisition and Cross-Servicing Agreement (ACSA)”, a bilateral pact Japan has already signed with main ally the United States and Australia....to read more
