The stealing thing is part of the game - so you can't really say it's a reflection of Chinese society or anything.I wonder if thats a reflection of what Chinese society has become during the last 3 decades?
When vesicles remarked that his wife who plays a chinese version of the game had her crops stolen by a friend playing from China. I was wondering whether it was symtomatic of the lowering of personal morals/integrity with the changing of CHinese society(Some old Chinese seem to think that)
In early October 2009, there was controversy regarding the lack of the Indian flag as an available decoration on FarmVille; among several other national flags offered, the tricolour flag of India was missing. This was first publicized in The Times of India and later spread to other media sources.[9] Some considered this absence an "insult" to the country,[2] and campaigns were launched in order to bring attention to the issue. By October 9, over 20,000 users added their name to a petition asking Zynga to add the flag.[2] This also caused other players to request that their national flags be added to the application.[2] On the following day, Zynga released a Twitter message which stated: "We celebrate the diversity of all of our players around the world. We're working on all sorts of flags to help you represent your pride."[9] On October 13, the Indian, the Philippine, and Portuguese flags were added to the game.
As any sociologist will tell you, online behavior does not translate into real-life behavior. Using your logic, I could comment on the degradation of moral integrity in North American society based on the number of hackers in FPS games.
There's very vocal groups worldwide who claim differently. Claiming violence depicted in computer gaming and other visual media, can affect certain the more vulnerable sections of society, thats what the R ratings are used.
Hacking and pirating is showing disrepect for private private, note how that's an increasing problem along with social decay.
