FN-6 in use in Syria

To be fair though, yes many states in the region (and ex-colonies the world over) have been set up by external powers to fail, and faces constant intervention of one sort or another, but the primary responsibility lies with the locals for being unable to understand that their common 'locality' is much more of a common bond than any external claims of solidarity with one faction or another, overcome the temptation of greed and power (only locally as they would still be someone else's tool), and build a better local identity and national foundation.

Yeah.... the Middle East needs a Lee Kuan Yew figure

LEE KUAN YEW but with ruthlessness of saddam hussein.
in the middle east, the main problem is weakness of secular civil instituion, anytime there problem erupt can quickly turn into secterian warfare and "democracy" means the persecution of minority.
in the muslim world they can change there government either by vallot or arm revolution,by the root of the problem is still there, namely Islam itself.as one turkish born proffessor (duke university) claim the islam condemn the entire middle east into total backwarness.the closeness analogy to islam was orthodox judaism, like imuslim counterpart, large number of orthodox jews live in poverty unemployment rate report as 35%,some indepedent analysis believe the actual number may be as high near 50%.
unless there is real debate and open discussion on islam itself. no amount of aid or regime change going to solve the problem.

One brainwashed religious fanatic doesn't represent anything. There are British, Canadian, French and American nationals fighting with the jihadists, just to name a few, doesn't mean jack, same with this guy.

But I would also caution against blatant Islam bashing. It might be all the rage in some western countries, but prejudice is still prejudice and should not be embraced. Radical Islam is no more representative of Muslims as a whole than the KKK is representative of Christians.

The difference between Hitler and someone you happen to walk by on the street every day is power. Lee Kuan Yew was fortunate that the West chose to like him despite denying democracy and freedom. Would he have been a true dictator if he wasn't in the good graces of the West? Caning an American certainly would've have been more scrutinized than it was. The West likes to paint North Korea as crazy. Are the Kims any different from Sun Myung Moon? What would've happen if the US wasn't involved with South Korea like they have been since the end of WWII? Saddam use to be an ally of the US. He was no different then than the day they hung him.
