Its no brainer trying to fit a rocket on the tail end of a YU-7 light torpedo, but are the VLS tubes big enough?

The CY-1 was supposed to fit Yu-4, which almost certainly won't fit, if we take HHQ-16 as Shtil. The hypothetical CY-2 which mounts the Yu-7... might. The torpedo itself is half the length of a Shtil, but might be too wide to fit into the tube, leaving too little clearance in the VLS cell, given that it's almost 2.5 times diameter of Shtil at 324mm vs. 130mm (~200mm with the fins).

I seriously doubt the 054A's VLS can accommodate ASROC type rocket.

However, there are other solutions. The European MILAS ASW missile basically attaches a 324mm torpedo to an OTOMAT MK2 AShM:

If the PLAN were to develop such a system, it could deploy ASW variant of 054A with better sonar system, with 4 x AShM and 4 x ASW Missile load in its 8 large missile TLC's.

This is theoretical and not based on any factual information, of course.

oh yeas the famous Vodopod picture...Well one could ask where did he get this information?

Sofar no other features of the Frigate supports this. As it is being noted the sonarsuite of this ship is more suited to the shallow water operations in close range and thus these sort of longrange ASW weapons, usually fitted to dedicated ASW vessles seems unlikely.

But we still don't know 100% what exactly is the SAM in that ship so nothing certain cannot be said for and against. Still I personally doupt it..well I doupt just about anything;)

Also here he reveals the full displacement of 054 is 4300 tonnes, and 4500 tonnes for 054A. But I see on

What makes you think the Chinese BBS post is necessarily authentic? We could say "the tonnage is speculated to be xxxx-xxxx" but I wouldn't take it as fact.

Nonetheless this is for the same reason why 3400 tons for the 054 might not sound authentic either.

That just doesn't sound right... I am saying 4000+ tons, due to the length and beam of the ship. Can anyone measure the draught from the pictures of the ship out of the water?

I'm with you. I say the 054 and 054A looks pretty big for me, like there is this picture, and FFG 529 compares favorably in size to the two Sovremannies behind and ahead of it.

I would think 4000mt to 4500mt is not implausible.

so basically, you have nothing. As far as a previous magazine stated, 054 is 3600 tonne standard and 3900 tonne full. I've always used that as guidance for 054. There is nothing else except this dude's wild claims.

Most PLAN fans know him, have enjoyed his pix, and I trust his credibility
he has no more credibility with me than other so called big shrimps on Chinese bbs, frankly all evidences are against him.

Isn't the second HD ship, the one numbered 529? That should have been commissioned already since it already had the number painted on. It also has a different hull water line color than this one. Both of these ships have the black on the second mast and the rim around the funnel is white.

I think the uncommissioned 054A is the one from Huangpu, made along 570. I think both ships have all white masts and funnels.
I think the first one is 529. The second 054A in HD took a long time to get launched, so it's not too surprising that the number hasn't been painted yet. I have a picture of it from late November, looks like this one, but seemed to have more work done to it.
Have you checked out the picture for a new Yuan (second type) that was on the water and being fitted out? Except that the date this time in on January 2007.
yeah, I suspect there was a Yuan of the new type already (before the recent new Yuan picture popped up in Shanghai. A couple of the pictures seen recently seems to show that Yuan under sea tests in what appears to be two different places.
