I have shot a couple different versions of the AK47. I haven't ever shot the 5.45mm but I have shot plenty of the 7.62x39. I have shot both Romanian and Bulgarian versions of the standard AK47, and thier accuracy was very poor and inconsistant. I mean, you could hit what you were shooting at from about 50+ yards, but anything beyond that was a real challenge for anyone with those weapons. The one that I own is called a VEPR, which is an RPK barrel and reciever that is constructed in Russia, and then shipped to the US to have the pistol grip, foregrip, and stock added and to make it semi-auto to meet ATF regulations. It is by far the most accurate AK47 I have ever had the opportunity to shoot. At 100 yards, we were shooting at a coffee can and I hit the can with every round that came out of my VEPR, let me tell you they were straight and consistent when the Bulgarian and Romanian models were sending the rounds in inconsistent directions/trajectories.
I'm not sure if it's the same case with all standard AK models, but I can tell you that no AK model is comparable to the accuracy of an out-of-the box AR-15 most of which WILL give you out of the box accuracy of below 2 inch groups at 150 yards guranteed. That's why most brand new AR derivatives cost atleast $1200, where as my VEPR only cost $550.
And I can put just as many fancy doo-hickys on my VEPR as you can on an AR
