I don't think Gallium is the issue. They should have more than enough in stockpile for military needs in aircraft.
While it's not gallium specifically, but I heard that Lockheed Martin only has enough critical materials on hand to cover F-35 production to the end of 2025. They expected the US government to give them priority for new stocks of materials, so it would be unsurprising if this becomes a bottleneck.I don't think Gallium is the issue. JiT but for military needs too! While it's not gallium specifically, but I heard that Lockheed Martin only has enough critical materials on hand to cover F-35 production to the end of 2025. What's hilarious about all this is that these critical materials aren't expensive. A couple billion dollars invested into building a strategic stockpile would have give the US MIC enough resources to withstand an embargo for a decade or more. But long term planning and hypercapitalism are just not compatible with one another.
Hey, what's more important, having a secure stockpile of critical materials, or making more money?JiT but for military needs too!

Unfortunately, I don't think we have any great alternatives. We can look to South Korea for submarines, munitions and tracked artillery (which is what was being purposed), and likely some European countries for other weapons, but the reality is we will likely have to purchase many weapon systems from the US. I think the best we can do is try to have a diverse (as is possible and reasonable) source of weapon systems.
What will these white elephants do? Sail up and down the Chinese coast with the Americans? The only one who is capable of invading Canada is the US and these ships will do jack. Americans will never allow any country except itself to invade Canada anyways. Our upcoming River Class destroyers (based on Type 26) will be built locally which is a big achievement for us, especially with 15 planned.
Yep if the US don't collapse, we will pass from US neighboring state to de facto 51 state... F-35 is a waste of money, better to have a lot of Forest fire fighting aircrafts and some business jet with missiles to do long range border patrol. What will these white elephants do? F-35 is another waste of money. Who wants to bomb Canada? Any country other than the US that might violate our airspace is doing it to get to the US. Again, the Americans have to defend our airspace regardless.
