re: F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Thread

Just a note, the article was written by Bill Sweetman, don't know why his name is not on the article.

His F-35 loathing is evidence enough of authorship, while I am not a huge F-35 fan, it is a Lockheed project and it will work, its actually a very neat airplane, just a poor substitute for the F-22 and her gorgeous little air superiority princess self, it sticks in my craw that they had to kill the princess, to promote the handmaid, That Just Ain't Right. Air Force Brat -----Cheers, maybe if we can send BHO back to Chicago, we can have another resurrection, I'm praying about both!

I have no experience with aircraft procurement, but I'm cautious about whether there would be any savings in bringing back the manufacturing line...

Also a video!

Good video, just realize F-35 canopy looks very much like those older Soviet jet such as Mig-21, they are not bubble up like F-16 or F-22. It is almost the same height as the fuselage itself.

This maybe a bit problem for situation awareness when dog fighting.

Your right about the Canopy, they tell us she won't ever have to worry about a WVR engagement[LOL], but situational awareness will be one of her strong suits, as she will have tremendous battlefield mapping and tracking of all threats and friendlys, thats really one of her claims to fame, another will be to engage multiple targets while remaining very L/O herself. I am beginning to develop an affection for her, but I can't for the life of me tell you why?

Not Quit there bud.
The Mig 21 had a very very restrictive field of view way more then the F35 when you take into account the Frame surrounding the canopy, Placement of the Ejector seat and Firewall.
Now although not a bubble sitting atop the fuselage the canopy curves along the upper fuselage the pilot has a lot of window between him and the firewall allowing a wide range of head turn Where in Mig 21 Once you turned your head too the left or right past somewhere around 70 degrees from center you literally hit the wall and at about 45 degrees on either side you were looking at metal frame. That said the F35 does have a more constricted view then F22, F15 and F16 But it's some where around the same visual area as the F18 series.

The Israelies added a lot of sensors to their jets in order to enable them to fire their Python V off bored, F-35 probably does not need a bubble canopy to reduce drag and because its sensors are good enough to reduce the dependance upon the pilot sight

Yes...slowly but surely the test aircraft are getting out to the partners.

In the mean time, the first production F-35A aircraft are already in service with the US Air Force.

Here are some beautiful, outstanding pics of one of them flying with an F-22 Raptor on its wing!

Air Force Brat should really like this. This is the way it ought to work, the F-22 flying cover/air superiority defence for the F-35As attacking and able to mix it up themselves if necessary.

Full production, active aircraft. Both of them. Nice to see the production, activated F-35As out there flying like this.

lovely pictures i like F-35

Actually Teran is right, the visibility is much better than the Mig 21, and the helmet mounted sight is supposed to allow off bore signt shooting, but the helmet has lag which is causing a glitch in the helmet mounted sight and hud.

Everything is better than Mig-21, however F-35 has the worst in visibility in all of US modern fighters, and no I don't agree it is on the same level as F-18, F-18 has far better visibility. You can clearly see half of pilot's head is sticking out of the bubble, while F-35 covers most of it.

I know F-35 is suppose to use the ultra modern HMS, however relies too much on technology is not good, I remember the time when US said F-4 don't need to install any guns in Vietnam.

The human eye and brain itself is a very powerful weapon, pilots often use peripheral vision, they get a feel of the enemy aircraft's position, where it is going by only looking at it from the corner of your eye for a friction of a second, which give yours the 6th sense of what to do next.

re: F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Thread

Space for the lift fan located behind the cockpit dictated the design of the F-35. Trying to ensure a one-size-fits all aircraft is the headache with F-35
