Israel announces purchase of 14 more F-35 fighter jets
Israel said Sunday it will purchase 14 additional next-generation F-35 fighter jets for approximately $3 billion.

The deal adds to the fleet of 19 U.S-made jets already purchased in 2010, the Defense Ministry said. The recent signing with Lockheed Martin Corp. includes an option for 17 more in the future. The first such planes are to arrive in Israel in late 2016.

The F-35 is the Pentagon's most expensive weapons program, with an estimated cost of nearly $400 billion. The program aims to replace a wide range of existing aircraft for the U.S. and several partner countries.

Israel plans for the stealth jet, also known as the Joint Strike Fighter, to replace its fleet of F-16 warplanes and maintain its aerial dominance in the region.

Israel to Buy 14 F-35 Fighters From US
Israel is to purchase 14 F-35 stealth fighters from US aerospace giant Lockheed Martin at a cost of around $110 million each, the defence ministry said Sunday.

"The defence ministry will purchase an additional 14 F-35s for around $3 billion, each plane costing an average of $110 million," a ministry statement said.

The $2.82 billion deal, which includes other technological and training elements, was signed at the weekend after being approved by a ministerial committee in November.

It includes the purchase of 14 stealth fighters as well as the option to buy another 17. It is the continuation of an agreement signed in 2010 to purchase 19 F-35 planes.

The deal will see Israeli weapons and aviation systems integrated into the aircraft in a move which will inject tens of millions of shekels into the local economy, the ministry said.

The first batch of aircraft are expected to arrive in Israel by the end of 2016.

When the initial agreement was announced in 2010, the defence ministry said a key part of the deal was an agreement to allow Israeli industries to get involved in the assembly of the plane and the manufacture of spare parts.

This is a no brainer-the F-35 is rapidly maturing and will offer very good fifth generation capabilities in the near term, with lots of room for growth and the integration of new and upgraded weapons systems.

It's basically a super computer in the sky...only with wings, radars, stealth and missiles.;)

I sure don't Need To Know :) but I wonder what processors F-35 has now (I think some time ago I already posted that question which nobody on the SDF can answer LOL) ... ten years old article says
Seven PowerPC processors are plugged into the CNI suite's two 6U racks, which provide redundancy in case one rack is battle damaged. Five of the processors are dedicated to signal and data processing; two other processors serve as interface modules. The two interface modules, one per rack, link the CNI processors with the F-35 integrated core processor.

EDIT
but I'm guessing there are not seven of them as in 2005 :)

The F-35B has been conducting various weapons tests for some time.

They typically do this on a land range...like somewhere in the desert in Nevada, Arizona, or California or some place like that.

Whether they will use this next at sea qualification to do live fire tests of ordinance at sea...I do not know. If I had to hazard a guess I would say probably not.

hehehe...19 + 14 + an option of 17 more (which I bet they exercise). They are going to end up with 50 F-35s. Not too shabby at all.

The beat goes on!

The Israelis have quiet a good number of F-15 & F-16 in their inventory, starting with the A-models of each type. I exspect that they'll need to start replacing them starting in about 5 to 7 years maybe. Right now to me it looks like the IDF will go with a single fighter type force in the future. I can't see any other jet being on their agenda right now. So medium term already, I believe the F-35 # for the Israelis will go way beyond 50.

Finest air planes americanos F-35 but I am sure will no this to Swedish AF.
But F-15E are better alternative.
In Israel they are F-15. Maybe 60 or 100 pcs.
F-16 is finished 2020-2025.
Americanos air planes all 3 typical.
F-35 to Israel to replace F-16. Nice.
F-15 goes 16 years from 2019 until 2035.
