Yes, we have been talking about the F/A-XX for a few years now.

Boeing and Lockheed both have concept art out there for their 6th gen aircraft.

Serious considerations on the various alternatives is expected to begin in 2015.

US Naval Institute said:
The U.S. Navy expects to undertake an analysis of alternatives (AoA) for its F/A-XX next-generation replacement for the Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet starting in fiscal year 2015.

The new aircraft and its associated “family of systems” would be expected to become operational around 2035.

“We’re doing study work right now to neck down what it is that we’re going to spend our money on in the analysis of alternatives,” Rear Adm. Mike Manazir told USNI.

“But at the beginning of fiscal year ’15, we will start that analysis of alternatives, which will then start the acquisition process to get an airplane in 2030.”

The Navy does not yet know what kind of aircraft the F/A-XX will be, but the service is working on defining exactly what capabilities it will need when the Super Hornet fleet starts to exhaust their 9,000-hour airframe lives around 2035.

“Right now our effort is take the F/A-18E/F off and list everything you lose,” Manazir said. “Now, how do you service that?”

Though the Navy does not yet have a concrete vision for what the F/A-XX might ultimately turn out to be, there are certain attributes the service must have.

“You have to have something that carries missiles, you have to have something that has enough power and cooling for directed energy weapons and you have to have something that has a weapons system that can sense the smallest radar cross-section targets,” Manazir said. The F/A-XX family of systems might also incorporate the use of cyber warfare capabilities at a tactical level.

But this is all off topic in the F-35 thread. I have created a new US F//A-XX 6th Generation Aircraft Threadhttp://www.sinodefenceforum.com/wor...gen-aircraft-news-thread-7126.html#post316864http://www.sinodefenceforum.com/wor...gen-aircraft-news-thread-7126.html#post316864 for this discussion since they are about to start serious analysis for the program.

Please take any further discussion of this topic there.

Israel approves order for 14 more F-35s, before 19, making the total of 33 right now.

Great news and glad to see the F-35 getting orders and driving the price down.

In 2015 National Defense Authorization Act
The negotiators fully funded the Pentagon’s F-35 fighter request, despite lingering program ailments. They authorized $1.6 billion for F-35 R&D, and $6.7 million to buy 34 Lightning IIs.

These trials are historic.

The US Navy is showing that it is moving right along with its plans to deploy and operate a 5th generation stealth strike fighter aboard its nuclear carriers.

A huge step forward for the strongest aircraft carrier air wings on the panet. The US Navy is not slowing down or slacking as it moves forward.

Soon, we will see US carriers embark with a very modern air wing of:

20 x F/A-18E Super Hornet Fighters (I imagine the Advanced Super Hornet configuration will roll out with these too)
20 x F/A-18F Super Hornet Strike Fighters (I imagine the Advanced Super Hornet configuration will roll out with these too)
20 x F-35C 5th Gen Stealth Strike Fighters
05 x E/A-18G Growler Electronic Warfare aircraft
10 x X-47B UCAVs (the actual operational designation will be different)
05 x E-2D Advanced Hawkeye AEW&C aircraft
02 x C-2A, KC-3, or KC-22 COD aircraft (I favor the KC--3 which is the COD/Tanker version of the S-3 Viking)

That will be a very effective and very diverse and flexible air wing.

An aircraft carrier of USN is much more powerful than air forces of many countries in the world. WOW!!!

Outstanding.

The Israelis know what they are doing.

Of course they do. US is footing the bill :D:D

On 26 July 2010, Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak said that he would insist on the industrial participation, local electronic warfare parts and local weapons aspects during his trip to the United States.[7] Barak submitted a request to the full cabinet for 20 F-35s for $2.75 billion to be delivered starting in 2015. This includes the costs of setting up local firms to assemble the aircraft and manufacture spare parts.[8][9] The entire package is to be paid for through American military assistance.[10][11]

The JSF procurement is financed through the $3.1 billion annual military aid that the U.S. provides to Israel.
