:confused:Panetta anounced cuts in troops numbers to 490,000 from 570,000 and specifically mentions rolling back production of the F-35 until some of the issues are resolved and Obama is holding a presser at the Pentagon today? Thats never happened, he's quote unquote, fully engaged, he did say he is fully committed to keeping all 11 carriers, their talking big numbers even before the 500 billion mill cut because of the supercommittees failure to meet their objective, this guy has single handedly wrought more destruction in three years?

Beautiful and capable bird indeed, and probably the best choice for the ROCAF if F-35 is ever available for Taiwan (just imagine most runways in the island were destroyed by intensive missiles attack if a war happened across the Taiwan Strait...).

re: F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Thread

U.S. Navy and U.K. Royal Navy F-35 unable to get aboard ship
Back in 2007, a Lockheed Martin year in review video stated that the F-35C carrier variant (CV) JSF had passed critical design review (CDR). The video and similar public statements said, "2007 saw the completion of the critical design review for the F-35C. The completion of CDR is a sign that each F-35 variant is mature and ready for production."

Yet, a November 2011 U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) quick-look report relating to engineering challenges arising from what is being called “concurrency issues” revealed that all eight run-in/rolling tests undertaken at NAS Lakehurst in August 2011 to see if the F-35C CV JSF could catch a wire with the tail hook have failed.

Article is a bit sensational but then there is this fact:

Seems like the problem is more related with the hook length (it is the shortest hook ever used by USN so far)

But if they increase the length, they can't find a proper spot where to "atach" the hook ?

re: F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Thread

ah, the article making rounds

hook too short/too close to MLG, hard to catch wires

lengthen hook -> screws stealth
modify hook location -> modify structure

only the most faithful F-35 defenders are still covering for the bird
this is a simple yet critical mistake
