Bangladesh Navy Ordered 2 Chinese Navy Type 053H3 Guided Missile Frigate With Air Defense System
Bangladesh Navy buying to Chinese Type 053H3 guided missile frigates. These two new ship of BN will serve as “stop gap” warship in the fleet. Bangladesh going to license build PLAN Type 056 Jiangdao-class corvettes and Type 054A multipurpose air-defence missile frigates in home.

Until those very modern advanced warships joins Navy BD, coming two refurbished ships will provide surface combat, anti-submarine and anti-air warfare capabilities to navy. Bangladesh gained a large amount of sea area with exclusive economic exploitation rights, which must be patrolled properly to prevent any asset loss.

After the new build warships’ entry to the fleet Bangladesh Navy will put these two Type 053H3 missile frigates into coastal patrol role. Bangladesh mainly purchasing Chinese naval warships to enhance force’s surface warfare capabilities. Recently BN commissioned two Chinese refurbished Type 035G Ming-class attack submarines into active service and started a new journey of sub-surface force.

Government of Bangladesh guaranteed the armed forces a comprehensive modernization program dubbed as “Forces Goal — 2030”, under which forces expansion and new quality hardware being purchased. Bangladesh Nou Bahini getting huge budget to purchase new warships, maritime airplanes, ASW & utility helicopters, submarines, and new bases are also planned. Country’s biggest naval base is being built at Rabnabad in Patuakhali district in the southern coastal region where, near, also construction for a cantonment for Bangladesh Army also underway.

To build a “Tri-Dimension Naval Force” Bangladesh Govt. providing every possible support to the force. In coming years there will be more modern advanced attack submarines, warships, MPA and other naval assets to patrol over country’s 118590 sq. km of water body in the Bay of Bengal. For coastal defense and patrolling Bangladesh upgrading its Coast Guard too, and acquiring more coast guard ships in various sizes. Recently surfaced news shows that Dhaka acquiring various coast guard and marine security purpose ships from China and japan. Bangladesh Coast Guard has been separated and authorized to policing the vast coastal region.

Within 2030, Bangladesh Navy will be one of the largest and powerful navy of Asia, as speculation goes on. It’ll be the second largest surface combatant operators in South Asia and one of the most formidable in Asia. Bangladesh needs to secure its “sea-line of communications” or SLOC, as most of its overseas trade happens through maritime route in Bay of Bengal and main sea ports are demands full-proof security from conventional/unconventional threats. So, country’s military leadership expecting huge boost in high-tech military hardware purchasing in the coming days. Confirmed Bangladesh will get 2 Type 053H3 Jiangwei II frigates. And they want to build the Type 056 corvette under licence. I guess the Jianghu and Luda's will get reprieve from execution for a bit longer.

It will be interesting to see which 053H3s BN receives. If the transfer occurs in 2018, the oldest units in service will be 19/20 years old, the youngest only 13.

Are we aware of any, or any other, 053 series PLAN ships upgraded to the HQ-10?
Also the old AA guns have all been removed but it's hard to tell from these photos if the ones on either side of the hangar have been replaced by Type 730's (without turret sensors) or something else.
