Why are those steaming junk piles still being kept a float ?
well, they are perhaps no values against USN or Japanese navy ... but heyy .... they are still better than most warship of ASEAN countries

It leads me to believe even with the recent additions in new hulls, PLAN is still not where they want to be in terms of numbers so these old units soldier on even as more new hulls are added. Not being under any state of war, these units can still function as points of presence, representing the flag.
China sold 2 of the 3 Jianghu III ships to Bangladesh in 2013-2014. Under the new owners they deployed them extensively around Asia and all the way to Lebanon. I would not say that the ship is useless after a refurb. They are still capable in maritime patrol, peace keeing and anti piracy missions far from home.
Of course one would prefer newer and better ships, but a new frigate today will cost you hundreds of millions of dollars.

Reading on other forums that Bangladesh is to receive 2x 053H3 frigates from PLAN in 2018. Is there anything from Chinese sources on this?
It's odd that they don't want PLAN's sole remaining 053H2 (commissioned 1990)instead, for commonality with their other 053H2s. In any case, if the oldest 053H3s (commissioned 1998-1999) were transferred to BN, they would be 20 years old at time of transfer.

Do you mean 053H3 ? I think the 053H2Gs had HQ 61 instead of HQ 7.

BN will upgrade these ships with C-802 which BN already operates. This old ships still can pack a punch if BN and MN standoff's again. Meanwhile Bangladesh and China will finalize a deal which will allow KSY to build 4 new frigate domestically under ToT.
