Have you got a ticket? Heard that the ticket for the Expo had been sold out half a year ago.

Re: Is China Going To Lead The World?

I made arrangments to go for July a couple a months ago, my travel agent never had problem getting tickets. She told me they expect 70milion visitors so how many visitors a day spread into how big an aera? It sounds daunting already. I sm hoping to catch that fancy train to Tibet as well, but the Travel Agent hasnt heard back yet.

The question on whether China is going to lead the world, has been discussed under a variety of guises, and the general opinion is yes. What I find equally interesting is whether Chinese culture good or bad is able to have the same amount of influence around the world as say American culture. There would be very little about American culture that hasnt been emulated in one way or another by most countries.

Good question. Chinese aren't obsessed with being number one, but rather more about being respected. We are proud of our deep context culture and pretty much, "demand" to be respected for it too. Throughout history, we never truly seek to be the most powerful, because for most part, we're more focused on domestic issues.

We do, however, want to be a key player and influence as this will "pivot" us around the center or something. Also this gives us more leverage to control and protect our interests and benefits in international politics.

My views are, in the future, that there may be thoughts of being the center of the world again like we always called ourselves lol. By that, I mean more of like a center of flourishing commerce where people flock to trade with China "and co-exist and prosper peacefully". I doubt China will attempt what the US does. After all we've seen what's currently happening today.

I've read something where someone once compared the early 2000-China to US as Chu and Qin. For that, I rather use Han and Rome as comparisons, as it effectively reflect and demonstrates more accurately. US is comparable to Rome in terms of its power, it as the center of the Western world and influence, as well as a lot of emphasis on wu(martial) and muscle. China is Han, the East's equivalent, but more on wen, and less on military.
As for what I think China might want to achieve, it may be more of Tang, when Chinese level of wealth, power, and knowledge is in its prime.
