I watched a documentary about the Marjata being retired that looks like a "pizza slice". They said the Russians hated this ship with a passion, always stalking their naval drills and maneuvers. The Russians would threaten it by shooting warning shots, and target it to scare it. But the Russians really feared this ship they said. If this new ship is a significant increase in capabilities, I hope the Russians hate it even more!

NAVYRECO's site gives a great explanation. The Norwegians name each of these ships the same...and this is the fourth one.

The one that is currently active but will be replaced by the new ship has been seen many, many times in the Barents shadowing Russian exercises and new ships. We saw her shadowing the Virkamaditya when the new Indian carrier was going through trials off the Russian coast.

It was also very much present during and after the loss of the Russian SSGN, Kursk...which also explains the Russian antipathy for it.

This new vessel is much longer (121 m vs 80 m) and significantly more modern. Here are both in a picture on NAVYRCO's site:

The new ship is to the left, the old familiar one to the right.

The 250 million dollar contract also includes an update to the Tape 6.5. version of the programming system of the Polish F-16's. In the future, Poland might buy JASSM-ER's, with a range of 1000 km, while the basic version has a range of 370 km. Germany has taken delivery of its first A400M tactical transport, with its air force becoming the fourth to introduce the type.

“The Bundeswehr accepted the aircraft at the A400M final assembly line in Seville, Spain on 18 December,” says Airbus Defence & Space. The company had performed the first flight of the aircraft – production number MSN18 – from the site in mid-October.

Delivery of the aircraft means that a combined nine production examples of the A400M Atlas have now been handed over, with France having received six and Germany, Turkey and the UK one each.

“The A400M will play a critical role in the modernisation of Germany’s air mobility force,” says Airbus Defence & Space executive Bernhard Gerwert.

The type will be replacing the Luftwaffe’s C160 Transalls, with 53 on order.

A flight realy a joke !
I see the last paragraph is:
Once at full strength, the Netherlands’ F-35 fleet will be sufficient for the nation to declare up to four of the type as available to support international operations with NATO. Its investment in the type is expected to total €4.6 billion ($5.8 billion), the defence ministry says.
Four! :)
It is a mistake to buy aircraft that are simply too expensive.
