define Eastern Europe please:

I think of Eastern Europe as former U. S. S. R. area, so I see three NATO countries there,

and there'd be some more of them if I thought of Eastern Europe as former Warsaw Pact area
In this context, i meant the countries that'll face the brunt of russian land attack in an outbreak. They're certainly warranted to maintain a healthy level of artillery support so the russians don't just steamroll through.
But, having conventional fire support like mlrs, big guns, holds less importance for someone like france. Any invading force from east will have to have crossed many layers of defenses to be in a firing position.
The key is to invest so that they never get to that firing position.

I've heard of it quite well. Ukraine isn't part of it and is in direct line of fire from russia.
I was really just taking the worst case scenario when everybody needs to slug it out for themselves in a land battle. It would probably never come to that, which just reinforces the uselessness of barrage firepower. Under nato umbrella, no one needs anything till you have US ready to throw a trillion $ on any conflict it gets into.. Pretty much the reason europeans spend only about 1% of gdp on armed forces.
