He doesn't put it in a very respectful way, but it's a fact. Low Chinese labour costs have been used to make China rich and keep products in the west affordable. It was quite a fair trade.
If labor costs were the main factor then India and Africa would be even more competitive. Portugal, Poland, Baltics, etc. would also be competitive, in fact moreso as they are inside the EU already. But we all know who is king of industry.

If they don't solve the energy problem then they'll be providing cheap European labor to Supapowa pretty soon.

I mean, not exactly closely following Indian developments since its like watching snails race, but shouldn't India soon surpass EU wealth? Granted, since India has huge population, it should have happened long time ago. But still.
