Espionage involving China

What happens in Chengdu stays in Chengdu. Even without foreign funding, people have a proclivity for reaching out to conspiracy theories and concocted tales of their own to fill the details and form a story.

Everyone knows how conspiracies and fake news arise. Someone tries to guess and connect dots and voilà!

Until we know more I am still hesitant to believe that foreign funding managed to trigger it (in this particular instance). Naive of me? Certainly.
Consider this:

She's 郑思斯, best friend of 庄祖宜, "wife" of Jim Mullinax, the ex-Consul General. Fancy her showing up at the "protest". She sure looks despondent towards the dead student.

No worries. MSS will clean them up.

Lets see who is brave enough to try this stunt again
I disagree.
First of all. Today's China Mainland is in no real danger for such stupid stunts. Color revolution is not something the CIA can simply magically make happen anywhere. They can't even pull a color revolution in Xinjiang, let alone Sichuan. What the national security department in China would be interested in, is how these foreign agents operate. So, they will loosen the grip and let the fishes swim a bit.

Also good to periodically let these things happen so that they can catch the instigators.

Better to deliberately bait them in a controllable manner, than letting them go stealthy and then explode suddenly

This is exactly what happened in this case. Apparently the perpetrators were communicating with their handlers via We chat. Where is the facepalm emoji when you need one?

Aren't there laws that deny foreign nationals from participating in protests?

I've noticed the Ukrainian far right participating in HK riots, US gutter filth Ted Cruz visiting HK like it's his "retreat leisure island" and of course US officials having closed room discussions with HK riot leaders.
