Maybe so but Air Bosses know that thye canno0t launch a single fixed wing aircrfat without that SAR angel(helo) in the air.

There used to be a funny uniform patch that showed an SH-3 hoisting a soaking wet Tomcat, the one from all the many Tomcat patches, out of the ocean with the line "Any Time Baby". Not what you would ever wear at the O-club of a fighter base! Can't find a picture of it on line.

I'd like to see that.

I was in two helo squadrons..HSL-31 and HC-11..And I was on shore duty in both squadrons.

By the way guys the air boss is the commander that runs the flight deck. He's the God of the flight deck. If you violated some safety rule on the flight deck and he sees you, you gotta go see him to get your butt chewed out. It's kinda like seeing Col Kurtz in Apocalypse Now..Scarry!

Here is a link to the trailer for a disaster movie about the Mayan Callander ending in 2012 prophecy.
It shows the USS J.F.Kenedy being flipped over by a tsunami and clobbering the White house like a crocodile in a death spin.

... In actual practice the USN sends it's ships out to sea to ride out hurricanes. It is safer there than in port. That is where that video taken from the JFK originated, it was outside Mayport riding out a hurricane.
I'v ridden a typhoon in a far smaller ship than a carrier. It was not fun, but nothing dangerous to the ship. You can't go topside most places because you would be washed overboard, and you can't work or sleep due to the ship's motion, some minor topside damage occurs, but even with green water hitting the bridge we were never in any danger of sinking. This was a 20,000 ton ship. The carrier shrugs off such weather. We envied them because they still had hot food and could sleep in such weather.
Nope. They are in sea to sailing orround the hurricane, which is better as to wait in harbour to be overrruned by his center.
No one would be so crazy to sail in the center of an hurrican. I give reasons for that in my posting #28 ...

Air Bosses are safety wired in a pissed-off position.
