If "ear of engagement is over" then why does the US want to start negotiating the Phase 2 Trade deal with China, while at the same time screeching about the CAI (not even a trade deal btw lol)...........

I hope you are watching CGTN to keep yourself updated. There are differences in trade and other policies between the present Biden Administration & the former Trump Admin. Keep an open mind, and you could learn by viewing and paying attention to China Global Television News (CGTN) - a Chinese professional International TV station.Confusing. What biden or trump administration has got to do with anything that happened? They were just following orders.
No, absolutely not. And that's not answer to my question.I hope you are watching CGTN to keep yourself updated.
What democracy, freedom and all this....No, absolutely not. And that's not answer to my question.
My question was why American administration regardless of party was being bashed when they were simply following orders? America is self proclaimed democracy & everything there is by people ,of people, for people. They are the "power source" wannabes.
I have no problem with American government. I have problem with those power sources. That's the problem we have to deal with.
If I may quote the latest media reports: (1) Top US, China trade negotiators hold FIRST TALKS after Biden’S election. (2) Both sides describe phone calls as “candid”; analyst view it as a positive signal on trade. The US Trade Representative Katherine Tai (a Chinese American) was in direct phone call (27 May 2021) with Chinese Vice-Premier Liu He. As a Cross-Cultural Consultant of many years standing, I believe it is highly relevant and preferable for negotiators to understand the cultures of both the parties. Tai is a “Chinese” although American, she could have some insights of Chinese culture and nuances. This would be a way forward. In trade and other issues, both parties have to be positive (as far as possible). It’s a matter of “Give & Take”, but the main objectives are cooperation & hopefully good-will. In this day and age, parties cannot bluff or BS each other. Once both parties understand the “rules” of negotiation, then it could hopefully be a way forward. On the sidelines, we have to ignore the “rantings” by both sides (US & China), and focus on what agreements could be reached, in this instance Trade, Investments. It is also wise not to confuse the trade negotiations by sidetracking & harping on Security issues, the origins of the Pandemic etc. Good negotiators must stay focus and look to achieving a mutual benefit trade agreement. I would like to quote Lao Tze - Dao De Jing “Knowing others is intelligence; Knowing yourself is true wisdom. Mastering others is strength; Mastering yourself is true power”.
Chinese Vice-Premier Liu He is an old hand and he knows the US inside out. He negotiated (?) with another US genious(....) Lol, using real politics at its best.Chinese Vice-Premier Liu He is an old hand and he knows the US inside out. He negotiated (?) with another US genious(....) Pottinger for the Phase 1 trade deal
IMO he should leverage the forced US purchases of 200 billion dollars which will expire soonish to extract better conditions for China. Liu He knows that the Phase 1 deal is expiring at the US mid-terms elections (lol) and he is going to bleed Biden dry.
Lets see if Biden has the guts to cancel these US favourable conditions during elections with the Republicans. The GOP would start screaming "China's man", "China's spy" "he doesn't care about our farmers!" etc
China holds real leverage this time around. I am expecting that Liu He, with Xi's instructions ofc, he will play hard ball with the US
Also the real surprise will come when China signs into the deal more US purchases for specific goods which will eat into EU sales into China. So with this China will drive a wedge between the US and EU!!
@voyager1 bro welcome to the world of realpolitik, your insights is outstanding and its fun isn't it.lol. Many people are criticizing China timid respond not knowing she holds all the cards, In this current era Instant gratification is what the west seek even though its against their core interest. There is a saying "never interrupt your opponent when he makes a mistake in fact its better to cajoled them to do more"...lol.Chinese Vice-Premier Liu He is an old hand and he knows the US inside out.
