You did notice the strategy focuses mainly on Xi Jinping?

But even if Xi Jinping is replaced, his successor will still be working towards the exact same goals in terms of economic growth and technology, because the policy bureaucracy is still there.

At the moment, Chinese GDP is only 20% larger than the USA when measured with PPP.
And China is spending only slightly more in terms of R&D, as per the National Science Foundation.

In 5-10 years time, China should be far larger.
So what are the chances of China completely replacing US technology in this timeframe?

Further on, it is conceivable for the Chinese economy and R&D spending to grow 2x larger and then 3x larger than the USA.
After all, China does have 4x the population.

So if we look to places like South Korea or ASEAN, China should have much more influence in terms of economic benefits and punishments.
And potentially China could have overwhelming military influence because China is right next door.

Why on earth would they deliberately follow the USA into a hostile containment policy against China?

Better to stay neutral and hedge between the USA and China.
Even among anglos we already see cracks appearing, with nz slowly moving towards neutrality, not fast enough to my liking but at least its happening

Biden has just given a long speech at the State Department. He said a lot of the usual stuff, but also said, that he would "engage with our adversaries and competitors" and "We are ready to work with Beijing when it is in America's interest to do so." This is about as good as China is going to get from the US in terms of orientation.

“American leadership must meet this new moment of advancing authoritarianism, including the growing ambitions of China to rival the United States and the determination of Russia to damage and disrupt our democracy. We must meet the new moment ... accelerating global challenges from the pandemic to the climate crisis to nuclear proliferation,” said Biden.

“We’ll confront China’s economic abuses, counter its aggressive, coercive action to push back on China’s attack on human rights, intellectual property and global governance. But we’re ready to work with Beijing when it’s in America’s interest to do so,” he said.

Is Corona that big of a challenge to Biden though?

On the day Joe Biden was inaugurated, the WHO changed the criteria for what counts as a positive corona test. Cases have been in a steep downward trajectory ever since that "revision" was made.

Much to think about.

Half a million covid deaths, and he's talking about "global challenges". Seems like American politicians are pathologically incapable of reflecting on their own failures.
As usual, the US needs a bogeyman to distract attention from problems at home. It's funny how Americans often accuse both China and Russia of looking for external enemies to "control" their people when its them that is clearly doing this..

US is not in a position to wage a trade war, due to economic recession, uncontrolled pandemic, and massive civil unrest (BLM or political polarization).

China is in a robust position to wage a trade war, due to economic robustness, largely controlled pandemic within it's border, and largely stable civil society.

If I had to bet, I would bet on Chinese stocks. Despite all his "Tough" Rhetoric from Biden (which is aimed at domestic audience), he has no appetite to continue Trump's disastrous failures. If anything, he can claim he boosted business confidence and GDP growth by ending the US-China trade war.
