Why are they surprised? They just had a season about white racist superheroes wanting whites to take over the world and this character took part in it. That's appealing to white nationalists. This is what's dangerous about how Americans think. They literally believe there are good guys and there are bad guys in the world and moreover everyone knows which side the other is on. They believe even the bad guys know they're the bad guys. Everyone knows their role especially when they declare themselves as the good guys. White nationalists think they're the good guys. They don't recognize themselves as the bad guys. In history, no one has ever admitted to be the bad guy. Everyone believes they're the good guy because it justifies everything they do and they think no one can criticize them. One person's hero is another person's villain. People who believe there are only good guys and bad guys in the world don't want to believe it's relative because that opens themselves to easily being seen as the bad guy. The West loves slapping sanctions on other countries. Sanctions victimized the innocent first not the ones in power solely in hopes the government is afraid of rising anger among their citizens or gets the people to stage a coup against their leaders. Does that sound like the act of the good guys when targeting the innocent is okay with them? It's an act of cowards trying to get others to do their dirty work so they can keep their own lives safe. Not romantic at all. Aren't the good guys suppose come to the rescue and put themselves in danger to protect the innocent?
The West who portrays China as evil yet they are the ones that invaded China not the other way around but somehow they think Chinese are the bad guys hence why the West can punish China economically through trade while they whine and complain when China does it right back at them. They're upset that Chinese see don't see themselves as evil hence why the West has the right to make money off the Chinese while they can stop Chinese from doing the same to them. They want the Chinese to see only their spin so they can continue their lopsided affair. The same things evil people do. So if the good guys can do what evil people do, what's the point of labelling people either good or bad? It's only so those in power get what they want. They're afraid of a rising China because they know China can declare Chinese as the good guys doing the same things they're expecting for themselves now. And the only difference is they think they're the good guys. The producers are upset when they're the ones wanting people to follow a prejudice? White nationalists see what's only good for them as being the good and that's including being okay with hurting the innocent just like "good guys" think sanctions are a great tool for them.

The west won't "fall".
The US won't "fall" either.
Just expect a more multilateral world where the power exercised by the west becomes evermore so limited and constrained. Expect a world filled with regional powers and tug of war over regional spheres of influence.
Likes of China, US and Russia would become merely the "slightly" taller guys in the room.
Also expect that the debt accumulated by the USA to finally bite since that is out of control
