You must be from the U.K. or have lived in the U.K. in the 1970s. It's called "Are yoi being served?" Yes there was an openly gay guy. Back then it was "ok" to laugh at others. No such thing as PC.

Oh, no, it is just that a lot of TV shows from England got shown on Canadian TV in the past.

The lady above is Mrs Slocombe of "Are you being served" Its about the staff working in the mens/womens ware of a department store. yes there was a gay guy.
