This is terrible news. US really wants to create an enemy out of China. What an utterly pointless, harmful and unfortunately expected approach.

Interested in what more they can restrict.

Any guesses?

My guess is .... nothing, or nothing important.

They are talking about this to assuage concerns from the hardcore anti-China side. I don't see Biden rolling back any of the existing bans but I don't see Trump style bans coming any time soon either since he claims that he wants to talk with allies before proceeding. We all know what the allies thought of Trump's bans.

I suspect if WTO rules against the tariffs then maybe they can claim they got not choice but to roll them back?

I mean they do need China to rescue their export economy.

Rolling them back will cost a lot of capital. Right now the consensus across the party line is to confront China, and rolling back tariffs/bans will make the new Biden administration look weak and cost a lot of political capital. Also keep in mind of the accusation that Joe Biden's son has taken bribes from China! Biden will not even think about doing it unless he has accomplished something big, like bringing down COVID numbers and reopening the country. This way he has more bargaining power.

Yes it is.

Bad news for the Americans, and great news for Chinese ultra nationalist everywhere.

Biden would be a complete fool if he does not roll back some the Trump tariffs and restrictions on tech exports. (Politically it would be next to impossible to roll back all of them).

This is the Americans last chance to do so. No more waiting from the Chinese side.

If Biden does not roll back the tariffs and tech restrictions, the decoupling of the American tech sector and the Chinese tech sector will accelerate. The CCP will start to ban US tech imports themselves.

What will happen next, is that American corporations will not abandon the China market. They will figure out a way to make it somewhere else and ship it to China. What does America get out of this arrangement.

Who cares. That is their problem now.

:p

That is very foolish of the Americans.

If Biden does not roll back the Trump tariffs and tech restrictions, they China goes one way, and the United States goes the other way.

What we have witnessed from this pandemic, China does not even need the world having economic growth, for itself to sustain growth.

A growing economy creates opportunities for profits. Profits are rolled back into R&D (along with dividend payouts to shareholders).

(The more R&D, the more competitive the corporation's products are in the future, cementing their leadership position. Look at how much TSMC spent lately. Oh well, guess the Americans do not believe in this kind of crap anymore.)

Guess the Biden administration attitude towards China is Gordon Chang lite, in contrast to the defunct Trump administration of Gordon Chang extra spicy.

Comrade Chang is a true Chinese hero.
