The primary purpose is to ensure that pro-China factions would win the elections. The secondary purpose is to make sure even if oppositions won, they wouldn't rock the boat.

I think that's a matter of opinion and largely irrelevant. The fact is Beijing's policies brought about tight economic integration with TW and HK.

I think it's unrealistic to expect Beijing to be able to determine TW and HK election results when the US can't even do that in Iraq and SK.

It is not lack of trying. Agree that it isn't relevant anymore.

The US regularly undermines electoral results or interferes with democratic regimes in Latin America.
They do it all the time. It does not happen as much in South Korea because they are more nationalistic. But they still have US bases in South Korea so they have to kowtow to the US just the same regardless of who is actually in power.

When the Soviet Union collapsed their troops left from Eastern Europe. But US troops never left Western Europe. Marshall Plan "aid" also came with lots of strings attached which meant European nations stopped having independent militaries and thus their own foreign policy.

I don't know when he said this. And I would've agreed up to about 10 to 15 years ago. But with China's strength growing daily. This advantages Hong Kong process is getting less and less everyday. Don't get me wrong. I'm very sad that's the case. But I just recognise reality.

why you are very sad?

That recent article on cracking down on corruption to stymie Five-Eyes infiltration convinces me that the Hongkong thing was also aimed at cracking down on espionage.

CCP cannot admit that Western intelligence is deeply rooted.

The Chinese have counter-intelligence. Feed them bad information. Especially the type they want to hear.

We have noticed how wrong the United States has been on the topic of China.

Basically everything!

Good.

I'm sad bevause I'm a Hong Konger. I still got my family home in Hong Kong and most of my immediate family is still in Hong Kong. My ancestry village is still in the New territory. I dont want to see Hong Kong people suffer economically.

What made Hong Kong prosperous. And that's with GDP per capita higher than most western nations. Far cry from the days where my brothers having to go and earn a living at 13 years of age just so I can enter school. And a far cry from me at young tender age of 5years piping plastic flowers till my hands bleed.

The advantages of Hong Kong was the entreport, then cheap manufacturing, then finance. All the time Hong Kong is carving a living from their advantage in the world. And able to move up the ladder with that. But now I fear if they don't fully embraced mainland China. They advantages could be eroded and they will be on a slippery road as they won't have anything else to offer.

The quicker these thugs realises that the better.

The US has made democracy look ugly. It leads by example and that's why you see other countries follow American conspiracies over the democratic process. They're doing everything they accuse banana republics of doing themselves. It's no longer majority rules. It's whoever has the loudest mouth thinks it's suppose to go their way despite elections and they think that's true democracy.

Look at incels. They use to be only found in the dark little corners of the internet where they would complain to one another how women are suppose to be their sexual slaves and need to be put in their place. The Republicans saw it and exploited it because most of them are white males expressing the same frustrations you hear white males of the right complain about. They shouldn't be ashamed for inventing everything in the world and they should be blameless. The world should be showing their respect to them not disrespect. We've heard a lot of the Proud Boys during the Presidential election. I saw an ex-Proud Boy leader being interviewed on TV. He was asked about the racism in the group. He said there are racists among them but Proud Boys was really about how guys were being shamed for being men and they hate the feminist movement. Recently there have been statistics that for the first time in a long while life expectancy has gone down in the US which has been said was due to more white men committing suicide. The alt-right and groups like the Proud Boys have blamed it on white men being persecuted for being white. When I was a kid, whites, young and old, would let me know I was going to beat women when I grew up because Asian men treat women horribly. They would do that. They would teach this to their children... Why? This is how they teach their children racism so they will always treat others in that regard. Who's not going to admit they believe these things? I hear it from the right and the left because they think it's true and therefore it's all right to say because they're hiding behind women's rights. Hence why they attack China under the guise of human rights and not because of any beliefs in any kind of supremacy of theirs being threatened by China. So then why are the alt-right, Proud Boys, and incels complaining when that's what people believe about them? They complain about it because they want sympathy and they want the attack on their masculinity to stop. Where's that sympathy they want for themselves when they attack men of other races? They tell women they're more likely to be raped by a non-white male. "Non-white men don't treat women with respect like white men do". And for Asian men, you're not masculine and they let you know it. And somehow they expect sympathy because they don't feel like men... Are Asian men committing suicide? I have no idea because they would care less it were happening because you're not important for any sympathy to find out. Ironic.

Incels... the alt-right... they're the latest transformation of Tea Party. Tiny groups that get all the attention because the Republicans want to exploit them to get votes for themselves. Q'Anon... those people who believe in Pizza Gate... they're the black helicopter conspiracy crowd of years ago. They all come and go and change into something else because the majority didn't fall for it the first time. Trump lost a majority in the election but because it was close he should still be President. That early report that said 10% of Brazilians wouldn't take the Chinese vaccine to fight coronavirus is a majority. It doesn't matter if it was true or not and the numbers were wrong. They printed that story to say 10% is a majority of people who don't trust a Chinese vaccine where they don't draw that conclusion in the US where 38% of Americans in one survey said they wouldn't take even their own vaccine. Christians claim 10% of the people in China are Christian so therefore Christians should be in control of China. They hide behind democracy but their logic is very undemocratic.

I was watching Fareed Zakaria's GPS 360 this morning and he had on Biden's pick for National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan. The thing about Indians is they want to come across as neutral but it's really they don't want to be caught picking the wrong side. Fareed Zakaria is no different but this time the shifting winds were blowing against the US. Zakaria pointed out that the Democrats during the election had called Trump's tariffs on China a failure yet why is Biden going to continue them? Sullivan said that the difference is Trump did it unilaterally where Biden will get allies on board. Jake Sullivan apparently tweeted to the EU not to sign on the investment deal with China until the Biden Adminstration can consult with them. Zakaria pointed out that tweet seems to have accelerated the EU into signing it. He also pointed to Asian countries signing RCEP so how is Biden going to gang up allies when they've already drawn their own conclusions in regards to China and their futures.

Just what is it with the Japanese mentality that they always seek ways to put one over China. Now the defence Minster calling Biden to stand up to China on Taiwan. Gee way to go.

TOKYO (Reuters) - A top Japanese defence official on Friday urged U.S. President-elect Joe Biden to "be strong" in supporting Taiwan in the face of an aggressive China, calling the island's safety a "red line."

"We are concerned China will expand its aggressive stance into areas other than Hong Kong. I think one of the next targets, or what everyone is worried about, is Taiwan," State Minister of Defense Yasuhide Nakayama told Reuters.

Japanese are master manipulators. But the problem is they start manipulating their own population like USA. And Japan extorts from USA. While USA extorts from Japan. And that's where the Screw Up begins. Both are foxes.

Now I know why Korea sees itself as more civilized than Japan. Korea never causes trouble. Even North Korea, likes to swing its sword around but never actually attacks anyone. Civilized people, Koreans are. They get my respect.
