I believe US has fully tested its EMALS before installation as well, the tricky part is integration.

I read it elsewhere is that the companies working on the electric catapult and elevator did not have historical experience in maritime ship equipment development. Maybe that is what contributed to the integration issues. You would hope it is not a oversight on the Chinese side too.

The USS Gerald R. Ford joined the fleet 4 years ago. It has yet to make a single deployment.
True...however she does regularly operate at sea in the Atlantic. Oh yea PLAN CV-16 has been in commission since 25 September 2012 and has not yet deployed.

I agree with the USN CNO that TOO much UNTESTED technology was crammed into Gerald R Ford.

Seven of the eleven weapons elevators are operational;

I do keep up with the PLAN. They too progress but as with any new technologies there can be glitches. I'm looking forward to seeing some really sharp clear photos of the 003..soon!

Except for Persian gulf anti-piracy patrols, PLAN does not deploy in the same way the USN deploys.

The USN by doctrine is an almost purely power projection navy. USN idea of deployment is rooted in the fact that it would not even know what to do with itself if it were not constantly going through the motions of power projection.

PLAN on the other hand, knows very well what to do with itself when not going through the motions of power projection because power projection has never been an important part of its role. Even if much of the latest hardware is blue water capable, PLAN remains as of now primarily a coast defense navy in which power projection only plays a minor role not suitable for its marque combat assets.

So in the context of how differently the two navies would “deploy” their operation ships, the fact that the Chinese carrier has never been on a deployment in the USN sense does not imply the CV-16 is as materially unready for operational use as the Ford.
