Nope! 48 Nimitz class carrier is even for China too much overkill.
Not sure about this option and please don't proclaim this too loud since otherwise some fan-boys at the PDF will again hyperventilate!
Agree that 48 Nimitz is overkill, there is no use for such assets.
It is more likely than not though that at least 2 carriers will eventually be given away. Liaoning will be an outlier in PLAN force doctrine by FY40, as it will be too expensive compared to an LHD, yet have almost no capability compared to CATOBAR CV or CVNs. Plus, you would need to maintain a unique supporting fleet of ski-jump aircraft. Liaoning and Shandong could retire in 20 years and china would still have gotten great use and value out of them. I also think the PLA is pragmatic, although many chinese would like it to turn into a museum, it serves a more useful goal to help build capacity/capability for alliance nations who might not otherwise be able to build their own.
I'm thinking of stronger alliance partners like Pakistan, Turkey, and maybe indonesia as ideal candidates to support the operations of a carrier, but dont want to spend ~$5 billion on a brand new solution. A Liaoning type asset offers a turnkey solution which would still be attractive to any country barring a superpower.
