See below. I guess more likely is just segments for a commercial hull, but the shape had me wondering.

IMO its another chunk of yet another gas carrier. These shipyards are building a ton of ice breaking LNG carriers for the Russian northeast route. Each of these ships are about 300 meters long so they are comparative in sizes to 003.

This keel laid, its far right to one of the pictures where 003 is, in the sheds that are directly at the back of 003, piqued my interest however. It can be yet another commercial ship but its exactly behind the dock where 003 is laid, and cranes can move this piece to the same dock 003 is right now, assuming 003 has launched and left the dock. You can see it has two halfs. Regardless what it is, I am thinking that this ship will succeed 003 in using the same dock 003 is on right now once 003 is gone.

Cheers, interesting assessment and I agree. There's also further pieces down the dock which I would not associate with Type 003 at this stage of completion, hence I was really on the fence there. Its kinda interesting in itself that they are laying out pieces for a successor build now. I mean sure they can probably sit there for a year but the move has me wondering whether build progress from now on could be more rapid than expected. But we'll see I guess.

Whether or not the successor ship is 004 or another commercial ship, the fact they are already laying it suggests to me they don't expect 003 to stay in that dock for too long, and that 003's construction will ramp up soon, like 075 build speed.

I don't think the back is a hull. It might be the superstructure of the ship, still unpainted.
