IFEP can and is done without HTSC, at the cost of extra volume and weight. GE designed the IFEP propulsion system for the world's first full electric naval combatant, the Type 45 destroyer launched in 2006. GE also designed the IFEP system for the QE2 aircraft carriers.

Zumwalt is a failure, and mention it in the same context as "example" or "success" is the wrong usage of the words.


Anyway, the analysis of Zumwalt shown that HTSC motors should double the missile load of the ship. I think it show well the challenges with the full electric propulsion.
And the Ford class still use to the old direct turbine propulsion.

Propulsion units of different aircraft carrier/capital ship built in the past decades, and visible on google earth pro.

Ford , Kennedy, Shandong , type 003 , America class.

Red squares showing the turbine units, the America is a bit tricky , that has two main and two auxiliary propulsion unit.

Only the America had gas turbine, the Ford , Kennedy, Shandong has steam turbine , 003 unknown.

Are you sure?? IMO this image can be posted just for the sake of completeness but it is simply too blurred to identify anything meaningful and if I should bet, I would say there is still that huge gap in front.

Actually, i think that there are. Im starting to wonder if the gap in the bow in photo prior to that is just a shadow from a crane. Im not seeing it in this latest photo. In this latest photo, you can see that the gap there is the shadow of a crane.

In fact, im not seeing any gap in the hull now. But i could be wrong, the photos are just too blurry to conclude that.
