Me again ... what are we looking at in the first two images?

The sign says "deep water tow basin/pool successfully flooded with water" on the date given.

I'm not fully familiar with what the term "tuo ye shui chi" would mean in a shipyard context (specifically the first two words). And I'm not sure where the photo was taken, if it was definitely at JNCX. But I suppose it could mean some kind of progress with the basin's work.

A scale down model of a ship, basically just the hull, is dragged along a long pool of water, to test its stability and other aspects of its sailing characteristics and parameters. The pool may be of variable depts., and artificial waves are created to simulate various sea states.

It is equivalent to wind tunnel for testing aircraft model.

Names of historical people are only used on training ships, such as Qi Jiguang. Zheng He is already overused on merchant ships.

Honestly they should just reconcile with the historical past, then name new ships after famous historical figures.

They're running out of provinces to name ships after anyways.

CNS Liu Bei, CNS Mao Zedong, CNS Sun Yat Sen there are 1000s of possibilities here, enough for a wholly restored navy.

Carriers could be named after leaders of the nation, destroyers/helicopter ships named after famous politicians/generals and anything smaller than that can still be named after cities/towns since they're so many.

The PLAN doesn't use people's names because they don't want to idolize or build cults of personality out of famous or historical people. Only training ships use people's names. Selection of these names have political connotations, and a military should be apolitical as possible.

There is already ships named after Zheng He, the latest being the CMA CGN Zheng He, which is one of the longest ship ever built in China during its time. She is part of the CMA CGN Explorer class of container ship that includes the CMA CGN Benjamin Franklin and the CMA CGN Marco Polo. Both the Zheng He and the Benjamin Franklin was built by Jiangnan in 2015. I honestly think that the containership perfectly embodies what Zheng He stood for than a carrier.

What you are looking at right now is works done on a Fabrication Yard. There is no lack of work progress in fabrication of modules, and there won't be any welding and joining of individual modules nor installation of machinery there.

The Assembly works and machinery fitting works will be done on the drydock after the modules are moved over there. The pace of work in the drydock will be perceptively much faster expected that on the fabrication yard.

The shipyard can pump out few carrier worth of fabricated steel in every year.

The bottleneck in the process is not the welding, that is the easy part, but the installation / debugging of the machinery.

A commercial ship is a huge metal structure contain a small engine , a military ship is a huge engine/weapon system/sensors/lifts/arresting gears / catapults warped into a small metal structure.

For a commercial big part of the cost is the metal, for a military less than 10% of the cost is the metal.

Means if it is a military ship then it less than 5% complete,after more than a year construction.

, I had visited several years ago (as a pilot who flew a shipyard owner there with his models - and instead of being bored waiting at the airport, I was allowed to come along and watch the tests. Very interesting. You can not only examine the behavior in different wave conditions, but also noise, etc.).

The PLAN doesn't use people's names because they don't want to idolize or build cults of personality out of famous or historical people. Only training ships use people's names. Selection of these names have political connotations, and a military should be apolitical as possible.

There are plenty of historical names which are in nature apolitical enough to consider, with nearly 2000 years of history there is a aplomb of historical figures for China to choose from. And most of them are already dead enough already to prevent any cults from forming around them, some of them are already worshiped as deities in their own right, it did be funny as hell to see a ship named after Guan Yu.

And to be frank since the PLAN's allegiance is sworn to the CCP, I don't see any issue with politics in play here.
