most media include specials like german "MARINEFORUM" call it:
CV 001 = Hull Number 16 = Liaoning = Typ 001 (which is confirmed by chinese state media)
CV 002 = suspect Hull Number 17, suspect Shandong = Type 001 A (as a Derivat of Type 001), today sitting in birth place Dalian (some more could build)
those are sky jump carriers, the next suspect to have flatdeck and catapult
CV 003 = suspect Hull Number 18 = Typ 002, to be build in Shanghai
In my mind, I personally couldn’t care less what western media (German or not) think or say in the matter of how and what Chinese names their ships.
The fact is PLAN or PLA has never called their first carrier Hull Number 16 anything other than “001号航母” (in English simply means Carrier Number 001) or “辽宁舰” (Ship Liaoning). I don’t know where people in the west got “Type-001” or “CV 001” from.
What’s even worse is the whole “Type-001A” name calling. Please, give me a single source of this which is remotely related to the 2nd Chinese carrier?
Again from the very beginning we have serval times seen pics from Dalian showing the name of this ship simply as “002号航母” (Carrier Number 002) the same way as how PLAN designated their first carrier. Since then we do not have anything like Type-001A or Type-002 been confirmed by the Chinese other than from fanboys’ so called logical presumption, neither the name “Shandong” or Hull Number 17.
So if people here do indeed respect the way Chinese naming their ships, then the three carriers we know so far should be really called as follows:
The 1st Chinese Carrier: Carrier Number 001 or Ship Liaoning and Hull Number 16
The 2nd Chinese Carrier: Carrier Number 002 (that’s it for now)
The 3rd Chinese Carrier: nothing confirmed, so simply the 3rd Chinese Carrier for the time being.
Please, no more what German/British/American media says... No more what we presume by following whatever logic... And no more mistranslations... Simply respect the official Chinese designations and names, full stop!
