Have we confirmed for sure that they’re going with a modular assembly method?

fzgfzy strongly suggested a while back that 003 would be built in large blocks before getting assembled.

Technically speaking most modern shipbuilding is modular in nature but 003 will be built in larger prefabricated blocks than say, 002 (which was also technically modular in nature but where each individual block that saw final assembly was smaller than what is expected for 003)

Why is that? I presume that larger blocks are more complex to build than smaller ones. Is there any advantage to that?

Much less piping and wireing has to be connected after putting the modules together.

Yes it's easier to do work in the module fabrication workshops, than when the modules have already been joined in the assembly hall.

I recall the rule of thumb is that a task takes 3x the effort when in the assembly hall, and 9x as much effort after the ship is launched.

In addition to what others have already said regarding the lower effort required for wiring and piping, the modular construction method allows for different parts of the ship to be outsourced to different yards, versus a convential method which requires all parts to be assembled in the same yard.

See this infographic of the QE - different sections were built by different yards simultaneously, and then barged to Rosyth for final assembly.
