We have aspeculated regarding this on these boards for years.
We do not know for sure...but my own predictions have been:
Type 001 CV-16 STOBAR (Completed)
Type 001A CV-17 STOBAR Launched and ready for trials;
Type 002 #1 CATOBAR building
Type 002 #2 CATOBAR perhaps building but certainly will
Type 003 #1 CATOBAR to build
Type 003 #2 CATOBAR to build.
The two Type 001s (001 and 001A) are both STOBAR carriers built on the Russian Kuznetsov design.
The two Type 002 will definitely be full CATOBAR carriers, potentially conventional propulsion and potentially EMALs cats. Displacement about 80,000 tons.
The two Type 003 carriers will also be CATOBAR and be potentially nuclear powered with EMALS. Displacement potentially 90,000 tons
I still believe this to be accurate.
After this it will just depend on how many carriers the PLAN wants. I expect a total of six operational carriers, with the follow on carriers replacing the fiorst two STOBAR carriers as needed and being newer versions of Type 003.
Guys ... can we leave out politics, can we leave out the USN's CVNs in the SCS since they are irrelevant in a thread related to the Type 003 carrier.
Thanks,
Deino
We know that. But not everyone likes it, that's why there's always confusion.What we call here Type 002 is potentially Type 003 according to official PLAN designation. Type 002 is officially what we call Type 001A here, so that leaves the next carrier to be 003 per logic.

In no way can 4 carriers be active out of a total of 6 carriers, at least not on a routine basis. Out of 6 carriers you can at most expect 2 to be actively deployed at one time, with maybe one more surgeable within 30 days and one more within 90 days.
What does the fact that they are STOBAR have to do with anything? They still have the same deployment, maintenance, and training cycles as CATOBAR carriers and will in fact have to be part of the same deployment rotation as the CATOBAR carriers.If 2 of those 6 are STOBAR then most definitely they can have 4 deployed
