It is an article by CGTN the TV broadcaster. We have seen site 81.cn (PLA's official site) posting errors not long ago. So even this is posted on MoD's website, we should not take every text as official and correct. We have seen 002 in official launching ceremony and shipyard internal meetings (blue banner and red banner), we have never seen 001A in such circumstances.
"The Liaoning, which entered service in the PLA Navy in 2012, is a refurbished aircraft carrier built from the hull of a former Soviet Union ship bought from Ukraine. It was China's only aircraft carrier until April 2017, when the country unveiled its first homemade carrier, the Type 001A."
Ministry of Defence says type 001A.
