There is little space where to put guns without either affecting their functionality or that of the ship. Plus the Flankers had their own guns and rockets if you really really needed to hammer something.

Congratulations, you have come to the same logical design decision as the Soviet Navy, compromising air power projection for cruiser features such as direct-fire gun batteries is not a good idea.

J-15 is so big. It looks like so packed on the deck just for 7 of them
Especially when the wings aren't folded. This is what my first aircraft carrier models looked like as a child, when I did not dare to cut the wings and glue them back on when folded.

Why don't Chinese pilots fold their wings immediately after landing, after all, it is one of the procedures that should become second nature to them. Just like unfolding the wings before take-off.

Probably just for the photo op anyway - they probably spend most of their time under deck in the hangar with their wing folded, minimising their exposure to sea salt that'll lead to corrosion when they're not launched in the air

yeah I agree way too big and totally not practical
Until CATOBAR becomes available, naval Flankers are going to need larger surface areas (bigger wings) to generate the required lift to blast off a ski ramp on the Liaoning and Shandong - how's that impractical??

Becuase folded wings don't look good for photoshoots
